FYI - From the 2k2 Service manual regarding abs

I was reading through ESM, and i came across the most retardest things,

ABS does not function below 10km/h... WHY!!

I was driving through icy roads where my speeds were under 10km/h and when i braked, i ended up going sideways...

Oh and get this.. if you experience vibrations, here are some conditions why this may occur.. your ABS may operate under these conditions:

Applying brakes gradually when shifting or operating clutch <==WTF?
low friction(slippery) road <=== OBVIOUSLY
High speed corning <=== WTF?
Driving over bumps and pot holes <==== Understandable
Engine speed is over 5000RPM with vehicle stopped <==== RICER MOVE?

Hmmm.. we have an amazing ABS system on our 2k2's... time to add this to our list of retarded features of the 2k2 maxima..

I drove in the snow on my bridgestones...i got tirespin into 4th gear..and then some..anyway. Yea the bridgestones suck...theyre OKAY with chains/wires on...but hopefully the So-3 will do a little better..in case i get in a freak snow storm in Lake tahoe or something

When the car is in gear and you hit the brakes you are slowing the engine down as well as the car. With the clutch in or the shifter in neutral it's much easier to lock the (front) wheels up since only the cars motion is turning them. Remember there is a fair amount of rotational mass in the engine, particularly in lower gears.At least that's my guess. I could be wrong.

As for the under 10 km/h I find that strange. I've had my abs activate once at those speeds when I was on snow (those bridgestones are total crap on snow).

Myrv..

THats an interesting idea regarding rotational mass and actually does make sense....

However i never drove a car where the abs stopped workign under 10km/h

I was wondering why when i was hitting the brakes, i was able to get 4 wheel lock..

Thankfully the ESM explained a lot..

It could be that at those low speeds, they figure you are unlikely to lose control and therefore to minimize braking distance allow for the locking of the wheels. As much as we might think that Nissan has a bunch of idiots employed, everything they do has a reason, whether we agree with it or not. They are not going to add behavior just for the sake of doing it as it costs money.
