Service Engine Soon - but I only just bought the car :O

As mentioned in another thread I bought a 2000 SE with 37k miles on Wednesday. That morning a Nissan mechanic checked it out and said it was perfect. Well today driving along this light came on. The car has about 37,300 miles. Is this anything to be concerned about? And more importantly, would it be part of the powertrain warranty and they'd sort this out for free?

Well being that you just bought the car and they checked it out and said it was ok they just might repair it. It really depends on the dealer, how you approach them about it, how busy they are, how much they would like to have your repeat business. 2 months after my bumper to bumper expired I had the same problem with my 2000GLE. It turned out to be a bad O2 sensor so they replace it and reprogrammed the ECM. The dealer fixed it - no charge - as they called it goodwill. I believe the bill was about 150 dollars. I live in a small community - 20,000 people with the only dealership within 100 miles. I suspose they do stuff like that here to get repeat customers. That type of failure would not be covered by the power train warrenty. Hope this helps you - good luck.
