First time at the 1/4 w/ stock 2k2 auto

Hi gang,

I've always wanted to do this and thought I'd give it a try. This happened at Beech Bend Raceway park in BG, KY. Weather was 41 deg with appx 80% humidity and an occasional headwind up to 10mph. Car is a '02 SE with no performance mods, 1/2 tank of gas and tire pressure was not changed at all. I made a total of 6 passes. Best pass listed below:

R/T: 1.017
60': 2.208
330: 6.238
1/8: 9.572
MPH: 75.12
1000: 12.468
1/4: 14.924
MPH: 92.21

I tried manually shifting, but got the best times leaving the car in 3rd gear. Track conditions were definately not the best as others were having a hard time launching too (Victim64 posted a thread earlier). I was using the break and launching between 2k-2.2k each time. Honestly, I probably could have gotten a better time by lowering to 1.5-1.8k and, of course, lowering my tire pressure. While manually shifting, I unfortunately either shifted too soon or too late, thus hurting my times.

The 14.924 listed above was against a late 90's 'Stang that had drag radials and a tuned exhaust. He posted a 15.886 and seemed pretty pizzed that he got beat by a 4-door.

There was also a '02-03 I35 with us and a early '90s Q45 V8 that could not break out of the 15.1's. So, I guess I did OK?

Congrates on the 14 sec run!! Whenever the track opens up again we will have to make sure we get a race in!

Victim - I read about your run. I didn't think the weather would cooperate so I made other plans. Wish I had gone though. Good times, but I know you can do better. Need to get springs to help with the launch.

Audtitous - good time for your first time at the track. Your 60' isn't too bad (better than any of mine). Don't worry, we've got mid-14 sec. cars (even if it is auto). Practice makes perfect. My first run would have resulted in a 15.1X 1/4 with a 9.74 1/8.

You got 6 runs in? Wow! The last time I was there I only got two runs in. From what I've learned about my car: it is better to manually shift at redline, 1/4 tank, lower psi for traction. I wish I would have had an opportunity to experiment with different launching (i.e.: easing into the gas instead of flooring it).

All-in-all I am impressed with my car. Now if they will hurry up and finish the y-pipes for our cars!

I was pretty happy with the runs for my first time. If it had not been so cold and windy, I may have tried with lower PSI and possibly removed the factory air housing to see if it helped any. With all the rain we had, the track was definately not in that great of shape.

From the runs perspective, I probably could have done 15-20 or more if I wanted to. Not that many cars were there and it was only taking a couple of minutes or less to get through the line. Heck, we did not get there until 3pm or so as it was.

You from IN? Is BG the closest track for you?

Victim - is Union Hill still open, what about Steele?

I'm itching for another couple of runs!

I'm in Jeffersonville, IN ( appx 15 min from downtown L'vlle ). Ohio Valley raceway is closer, but it is only an 1/8 mile track. Not sure if there is another 1/4 mile track closer to L'vlle or not.
