Shifter Solenoid Problem

A few months ago I noticed my shifter sticking, after turning the car on. The button would click in fine, but pulling the shifter back was a hassle. Took it into dealer, he made some adjustments, and sent me on my way. About a month ago noticed the problem now was with the button on the shifter. I would depress the brake and the button would not release. Took it again to the dealer, they cleaned it up, made a few adjustments, and then warned me this problem was related to the solenoid which might need to be replaced. They said that this would entail replacing the whole shifter which would mean quite a bit of $$$. Anybody else experienced this problem? Any ideas less expensive?

What year is your car? I'm assuming your warranty is up?

It is a 2000 Maxima with 41K, so out of warranty. They say this problem is not covered under the powertrain warranty.

If I remember correctly, my shift lock was not part of the shift console necessarily. It was screwed into the shift console for support. Also, there was nothing to really "adjust". Is the dealer jerking your chain?

I could be wrong about all of this but my shift lock got "confused" when replacing my shift console and I fiddled with it for awhile trying to understand how everything in there worked.

I would give David Burnette a call to see what the replacement cost is of the shift lock by itself.

try this, it happens to me sometime. (assuming you have an auto)

Start the car, put down the ebrake and pump the brake pedal.

Then try and shift.

Mine seems to stick when I pull up the ebrake before shifting in park during shutdown.
