what warranty did you get?
what warranty did you get?
Hey guys,
I'm about to buy a new 2003 Maxima SE, and thinking about purchasing an extended warranty. So, I'd like to know how much you paid for your warranty, what kind of warranty it is, and who did you get it from. Also, what's a reasonable price on a warranty that's sold by the dealer? Or should I buy a 3rd party warranty to get a better deal? I'm pretty much clueless when it comes to warranties, so any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Go online with extended car warranties. Plenty of good ones to choose from that the dealer sells to you for fat profit. Shop around for bids and wait aday to see what comes in. I got "warrantybynet" --- 5year(from day I bought x/warr) X 100000. $950. No deductible. No interest payments. Covers everything except tires and wipers just about. If you buy a Nissan X/warr. (and some others)on a used Nissan --- the year time starts from the day the car was FIRST sold.(e.g. 2001 is 7-2=5years left) But they still call it a 7year warranty. Big lie. Mileage is always TOTAL mileage.

I would wait until your warranty on your '03 is about to expire to buy an extended warranty. That way you can have a better idea relative to the quality of your particular maxima (and whether or not you would even consider a warranty). But most folks buy them for peace-of-mind anyway.
I personally bought an aftermarket warranty (warrantybynet) because Nissan's warranty didn't cover as much (such as the radio and speakers for example) and cost $300 more. Besides Nissan's warranty begins from the date to bought your car, whereas, most aftermarket warranties begin from the date you buy the warranty (that's why its good to wait until the standard 3 year/36k mile warranty is almost up).
Also warrantybynet is transferable...so if you buy a new car before the warranty is up, you can transfer it to the new car (that's good if you get in a car wreck and the car is totalled). Also if you cancel the warranty you'll get a prorated refund (as long as you didn't file a claim - I think).
Goodluck.
Re: Re: what warranty did you get?
Honestly,
The only good thing about nissan warrenty is that they will do the dealer work for free.
If you have any trouble and need road side assistant don't plan on calling nissan and have them there within an hour. It will take all day. Their roadside assistant is BAD. Getting a rental car is also a run around with nissan as well.
So you gotta look at what you want. The ability to get your car fixed under warrenty without question and be stuck on the road when you need them. Or going with AAA and getting decent roadside assistant and not having the ability to fix your car at the dealer after the standard warrenty runs out.
Your choice.

I think when you buy the extended warranty it's not the usual standard, that's why there are different packages like Silver and Gold. So basically you're upgrading your warranty as well as extending it. Under your normal warranty some things you have to pay to replace some parts even wearable items might still be free under the extended warranty.
I bought an extended warranty when i got my 95 maxima, spent 1000 dollars on it and drove through the warranty without ever using it. IT wasnt until I hit 160,000 miles before i had to fix something, and it was just an oxy sensor. In my opinion I would either have the dealer throw it in for free as part of the deal, or skip it, basically what you are saying by buying that warranty is that you guarantee that you will have 1200 dollars worth of repairs between years 3 and 7. You may also want to consider that the only reason they sell the warranties is because they make more money from them then they pay out.
Peace of mind for someone who is afraid of crooked mechanics? sure.
Now with all that being said, i'd feel bad if you didnt get it and your engine failed at 70,000 miles

For once I decided to buy an extended warranty ona Nissan. Since I knew the Finance Manager that sold me the car I got it at cost (or so he said) for $550. I think it's a bumber to bumber 5 year 65k mile one.
They burned up that cash with my cars first visit (blown maf). And another few grand when they gave me a new tranny.
But part of the reason I got the warranty is because I feel sorry for the poor bastards who get my vehicles after Im done with them.
