sterling mist is really popular - must give props to altima also !

hi, i am a new maxima owner ! actually, my boyfriend is, since i don't know how to drive. but i love sitting in the passenger seat.

i was just wondering. we really had intentions of buying the altima, and everytime we see one, we go nuts ! does anyone else out there really like how the altima looks ? it's really cute. we ended up getting the maxima since everyone says its a stronger car & it's also manlier.

now that we have the maxima, we are very excited it. but it is upsetting me to see the sterling mist color everywhere ! (that's the color we got also). does anyone else get annoyed when they see their same car driven by someone else, or is it just us ?

Yes, every time I see the Altima (and 2002 and 2003 Max's) I go NUTS!! I mean, I can't stand those ricer looking taillamps (and am not too thrilled about the HID look).

As far as seeing 'your' car drvien by everyone else...since you are not the very first person to pick that color...technically YOU are the 'everyone else' driving around in a car that was unique to the first person who bought one. One of the reasons I got my black AE was so that it would not be seen on every corner.

In any event, enjoy!

modest mods

ok, so now that we have the sterling mist 03 maxima & saw that everyone else has this color we wanted to make ours look different - so we tinted the windows (and after seeing the SHIFT commercial of the maxima driving into the sunset with that cute tune - it just made more sense !)

we were promised to get the wind reflector from our dealer but it has been backordered. i notice everyone has that also.

any one suggest any slight modest mods we can use ?

Don't bother with the deflector. If you search around here, you will find a number of us who took them off (since they just came on the car and we didn't order it that way), just to find scratched paint underneath and some later ones were cracking like crazy. The overall effect (noise, etc.) is minimal with or without it. Also, with it on it is a pain to properly clean and dry the roof of the car.

I got the Sheer Silver color (2003 only), and haven't seen that many of them at all (actually, maybe only one or two). The colors I see most are Sterling Mist, Majestic Blue, and Grey Lustre.

Don't bother with the wind deflector. From what I've heard, they crack easily, and you'd have to take it off once in a while and clean under it, or else you'll have permanent dirt marks underneath it. I also debated whether to get it or not, but ended up not getting it. They are ugly looking as well.

I have a sterling mist and I agree that it is a popular color. To make yours unique, I suggest front clears and window tint

I pick up my Sheer Silver Max this Thursday, but was wondering-is the sheer silver color that different than the Sterling Mist? To me one was 'maybe' a little more lightly colored, but not very noticable, (to me).

It's not as noticeable at night time as during the day. The Silver looks, well, more Silver than the Sterling Mist. You're right about the Mist being slightly darker, but to someone who knows the Max's colors, you can def pick them apart. I've always liked silver colors on cars, and I think Sheer Silver is one of the best in the industry. Happy Max'ing!

By the way, what options did u get? I just got mine last week, so I'm a new owner as well.

I didn't get any options really I am not into frills, and the standard features on the Maxima are beyond what I expected anyway. The ONLY thing I was interested in was the manual, and the color, (the past six cars I have owned are all silver) but really, I am happy with the car in its basic trim. I wish I could have gotten the LSD without having to add options, but I would like to add it on later.

Have you explored/priced out what this will cost you? It may surprise you (both parts and labor).

I have , I personally installed Phantom Grip's and Quaiffe's LSD in other cars I have owned so I am fairly competent turning a wrench, and from what I have seen about the cost of the LSD for this car, (about $400-500?) I think if I will wind up getting the thing after the Holidays.

Well, I guess I am going to take my chances on it But from what I have seen on this car, its not going to be too involoved to install one. Everything looks fairly accessible underneath-so hopefully the car won't blow up on me when I get done with it

So how do you like the 6 speed? A lot of people here were saying theirs are quite notchy (esp. from 2nd to 3rd). Mine has been fine thus far, and I hope it stays that way too. What are your impressions thus far? Most of the 2002/3 Max's I see on the road are autos. Have you guys seen a lot of 6 speeds? When I say I "see" them, I mean when you can tell that it's a 6 speed (i.e. the car rolls back a little when starting from a hill, etc).

Well, in the Max's I test drove, I had no problems, and if they were a little notchy-its nothing a few quarts of BG Synchroshift couldn't help.

As for my particular car, well-I dunno, I get it this Thursday, and have a thousand mile drive to get it back home, so I guess I will have a report after that

I think a conservative mod that complements the Sterling Mist color, that's not too aggressive is grille-tech inserts. I think they look especially good on Sterling Mist. I finally went digital, so I'll be posting some pic's soon. IMO, it's a great bang for the buck mod... http://www.grille-tech.com/detail.html?prodid=106

I test drove a 3.5 Altima before I decided to get my current 03 Sterling Mist SE. The Altima A/T felt slightly faster than the Maxima A/T. I bought the Maxima because it is Nissan's flagship and the advertised "extra" 10-15 HP (if it is true) than the 02-03 Altima. I don't get annoy seeing other Maximas with the same color. Different shades of silver is very popular for all cars. It hides road salt and dirt really well during the midwest winter.
