I've had my Aero kit for several months now and I love it. I do have a question though. Do most of you have aftermarket mufflers or what? Because I've noticed that since the addition of the rear valence, the stock muffler seems to be sunken under the car rather than slightly protruding or lining up prefectly with the rear of the car. Do some of you drive around like this or have you added just had the tip loosened and pulled it out some?

with GReddy Evolution exhaust, it sits really nice, but exhaust heat does burn the paint a little tho.

I would love to put on that muffler but I plan on getting a Y-pipe eventually and I don't want it to be loud. Not at all. I love it quiet. If I eventually get boost... I'll have a different car as a daily driver and I'd be cool with a Greddy.

Do I have no other options? I really like how the stock tips looks; I'd like to keep it if I can. I just want to make it 3" longer than it is so it won't be stuck under the car.

I wanted to see if anyone else did this before I did it. Hey cwally, did you just unscrew that bolt directly underneath the chrome tip and then moved it outward some? Upon my initial inspection, it seems that the actual 2 separate pipes will not come out any further (no duh eh? heh). I'm just wondering if maybe you extended the pipes out further as well some way (or just the tip).

This might be a little confusing...

The oval piece and the two round pipes that go in it are one piece. That piece goes attatched to the two pipes that come out of the muffler.
The oval part with the round pipes in it are like a sleeve to the original tips. So basically I could have moved it farther in or put them at the very edge like I did so that it was flush with the body kit.

I actually took the ( I believe they are Anniversary Edition Tips) and welded it. Hope this helps. I think the part costs about 30 bucks if your order it thru Dave B. Let me know if you have any other questions.

 

My greddy sits nice (I think) but after I installed it myself I had one of the pipes heated a bit to pull it down and away from the paint.
No more burning the paint..

 

u can do what cwall did, or you can also get the HKS rear-section muffler for the 5th gens.(since you like the twin tip design of the stock muffler).

 

I get it. It "looks" like to me that the oval piece is separate than the pipes. If theyre both connected... than that's even better than I thought! Are these things welded on? If so I'm going to have to pay someone to do this because I'm definitely not a welder.

Also. What do you mean the AE tips? The oval part? I have a 2000 SE and the oval part was OEM. I'll look into the HKS rear section and see how it looks. Thanks.

 

I meant to say SE. My max did not come with it. I had to order the piece. And then I had it welded. But you did understand. The oval part has two pipes in it. And they are both one piece.

 

i took a look at mine today and the oval sleeve is welded onto the two pipes sticking out of the stock muffler. I believe you'll have to heat them or something to get it off or pull it out farther.

 

I would recommend the HKS with an 2.5" b-pipe w/resonator.

but you'll have to shave a bit off the rear valence in order for it to fit nicely and also to avoid rattling.

 

I'm on HKS rear with Stillen y-pipe and all but I know it touches my rear but it's ok......I love the way it sounds.......it's not that loud as I think it was goin to be so I'm very happy with HKS rear section......

 

is the hks exhaust just the muffler portion, or is it a full kit like what cattman has? i've heard good things about the hks muffler, but i'd like to see it/hear it for myself before i throw one onto my car. i like the fact that it's not loud, but wht type of sound does it make? a moan, hum or buzzing?

 

Okay, I'm browsing on hksusa.com and I limited my search to exhausts for 2000 Maximas. The search only comes up with 3 that are compatible:

1. Sport Exhaust
2. Universal stainless Hi-power Muffler
3. Universal Titanium Racing Muffler

It's not here?

Woo Cho: I just checked out your cardomain site. Nice ride... but do you have any good pictures of the rear of your car?

 

i think it's the sport exhaust that is the one with the dual tips. The problem is that it's around 500 just for the muffler, not a full catback

here's a couple more samples:

 

HKS is just a rear section 'muffler'. not a cat-back exhuast system. which explains why it's quieter than GReddy cat-back as long as your keep your stock b-pipe and ther resonator. but it is a very nice looking rear section.

adding a y pipe will make any aftermarket exhaust considerably louder. The question is whether or not the sound made after the y pipe install is "loud" for you.
