I was just about to buy some Amsoil Series 2000 MT 75W 90 oil but a friend of mine advised against that because of the possibly of getting leaks in the manual transmission. Has anyone on here found this to be the case.

If the transmission leaks now, it will leak worse with synthetic. The odds are definitely in your favor that it won't leak after the switch, but it is always a possibility. Switching the engine oil is more likely to cause problems and is probably what your friend was referring to.

 

I think it is more likely that you will get leaks if you change it only if you do not replace the rubber seal on the neutral switch, or replace it and don't install it properly. I had this problem.

 

Most are just fine.

Some on the national mailing list have reported a very slight leak upon switching, VERY TINY amounts... just enough to show they're a leak, but not enough to actually affect the fluid level inside the transmission.

I wouldn't worry about it.
