You get what you pay for?

Hi guys,

I've searched the posts and need a final answer on this one. I need someone who has a 1999-2001 Max SE to verify that the BOMZ / Southwestautoworks FSTB will fit without any modifications. I went to install the bar tonite only to find that the bracket on the driver side holding the airbox and some sort of solenoid is in the way and would need to be hacked (ghetto style) in order to fit the FSTB mounting bracket. I'm kicking myself right now b/c I thinking that I should've just up and bought the Stillen bar. Anybody? Thanks.

Is it this gold bracket?

If it's just hitting the solenoid (like my CustomMaxima.com one was), all you have to do is:
1) unscrew the part of the bracket with the solenoid on it.
2) use a pair of pliers to bend the piece of that bracket that fits into the hole, so that it is straight or pointed down.
3) re-mount that part of the bracket with it turned to the side enough to clear the FSTB.

Hope this helps you.

I think ASU174 has the BOMZ bar, so you could try and PM him. For the SWA bar, you have to pick up like 4 washers or something, two for each side, to make it fit. You can call them to find out which ones for sure, or search again. I do remember a few posts about these.

I had the same prob with mine. It was a tight fit but cut away the glue/caulk around that bracket with a razor blade. You will now be able to install the braket, install the bolt closest to the motor first tilting it under the bracket.

Put a washer or two under the bracket on the two studs on the outer side of the car, the bracket will bend and look like **** if that is not done.

PM me with anymore qs

it's not the actual gold bracket, but a piece of metal that is welded onto the shock tower directly under the gold bracket. i did a dry-fit of the FSTB bracket and the metal piece protrudes about an 1/8th of an inch out too far, preventing a bracket from fitting flush.

Exactly! Cut the caulking around the bracket.

I'm not sure if my experience with installing a FSTB is about the same as yours, but here was my write-up on it...

It sounds like you have the same issue I did, but it was fairly easy to solve.

Good luck. Peace.
