im hooked on 5spd....what to do

well, this always happens when i drive a friends 5spd maxima....i always get addicted and want and want and want it....

now i have 2 options obviously....either get a 5spd conversion, or sell my car and then buy a 5spd max....

5spd conversion will run me about 1,500 or so, but it wont be as good as a regular 5spd max.....

just sell my car....it only has 60k miles on it, 97 neptune blue se, auto.....i could get a pretty penny for it ...if i get 9-10 thatd be great......

now, what are the chances of me finding a 97-99 SE 5spd in neptune blue w/ UNDER 70 k miles...for under 12 grand?

FYI, autotrader has 258 maximas, 97-99, from $5000-$12000, within 200 miles of where you live.

There has to be manuals in there. But Neptune might be hard to find.

Jamsan, I feel your pain. I wish I had bought a 5sp, but I bought my 98 auto instead. When I bought it, i could have had a pebble beige 5sp for $2k less. What was I thinking???

Yea
it's hard..

but it's possible to locate one

I was searching for one in a 50 mile radius..
I found on near Philly after a week or so of checking Autotrader.com daily..

I was looking for 95/96s thinking that's all that would fit my price range, but I saw a 97 SE 5 speed at a great price, called them up, went down there the same day and picked it up

If you want to be picky and look for one specific color, specific milage, options + 5 speed, it will take a while...

what wouldn't be as good?

I'd go the conversion route if you have the car you want. it can be tricky to find any color 5spd with the miles/price range you want, let alone a color they made in one year only.

yes mostly reselling wise...i doubt ANYONE would want to buy a car that was converted from auto to 5spd...and also, it would weigh a little more, because the wiring for the auto tranny is still there

every pound counts

i dunno im starting to like the SE 97-99 5 speeds..

im slowly realizing how much of a pain in the *** this tranny swap job will be for my 3rd gen; and i have yet to see a 3rd gen in as perfect condition as mine around here (aside from org members) so a good VE 5 speed will be incredibly hard to find...
and VE 5 speed will always come before 4th gen 5 speed in my book (provided both are in equal condition)

if you want a 5 speed that bad, convert yours.. youre not going to find a 97 5 speed neptune blue with average mileage. not to mention youre going to be driving 2 hours just to look at a car, and if its a pos, you just wasted 4 hours round trip, that can be frustrating... you also dont know how the car was treated, and you know how you treated your own car..
what happens when you sell yours, buy another max, and then something major goes? you will also be car-less for a while unless you can afford to buy another max then sell yours

Just convert your car...

There is too much BS with selling your car and buying another one...

Chances are you will not find the color you want along with the milage, price and a 5 speed. Plus in your area.. Then even if you do find it, which is highly unlikely, you never know what condition it may be in.. every time you buy a used car you are taking a risk.. your car is already in good shape and you know it..

Besides, you may sell your car and then buy another one, you might pay a lot more for it, or maybe not.. and you'll have to deal with the tax and fees and ****..

it's just too much hassle in my eyes.. if you are ready to loose another 2-3 grand to find the same car as yours but a 5 speed.. just convert yours!

Re: im hooked on 5spd....what to do

chances are slim, but you can find one. I know this guy who bought a fully loaded 99 5 speed SE for 7K from the Nissan dealer , believe that I freaked out myself the car was a previously owned company car and it had a 101K on it. Not bad if you ask me.

borrow your friends pimp wagon Volvo

You should be able to find something to use for a week or whatever. Catch rides from friends, take a cab, bus, anything!

It just makes it all much more worthwhile when you get it back..
you'll be happy to have your car back, but you'll be even happier seeing it has 3 pedals
