I have a '86 maxima manual. When i start my car and i plug in the mass flow sensor the car automatically dies but if i unplug it the car runs well on idle but as soon as i give it some gas the car it either dies or it runs really rough. i did the ecu test and i got the idle switch error. can someone please help by either posting a picture of the switch so i car replace it or tell me if the mass flow sensor has anything to do w/ the idle switch. any ideas of what it could be would be appreciated.

Definately replace the bad idle switch. You probably do have a bad MAF sensor. A good way to check is to open up your airbox, take out the filter and see if you have water in the bottom of the box. If this is true, its indication that your AIV is gone, and your MAF sensor is probably damaged. Best thing to do is go to a junkyard and located a MAF from a wrecked Maxima or Z31 300ZX (84-88). Also you should unplug the AIV connected from the air box, and plug the hole. Just start off with the idle switch and work your way from there.

well i jus for the hell of it checked out my ecu today and i wasnt gettin code 13 or cylinder head temp. but it was 23 which is the idle switch, now i have a question? where is it located on the engine i have checked my chiltons and found nuthing. and i kno for sure my AIV is shot because it ruined my old MAF adaprt which i replaced from my old maxima. i wanna kno if i can jus pull thi part off my old maxima and use it if not i guess it will have to wait.. thanx alot
