questions about legality of lights...

I purchased the diamond clear corners recently for my '99, but didn't think even think that they might be illegal. I live in virginia, which is pretty sh!tty as far as stuff like this goes.

Are they legal with the amber bulb? What about with a blue/white bulb?

Are the red/clear taillights legal?

Thanks for any info.

Good luck. I would go with the amber bulbs. I think you'll be fine.

cool, thanks. do you have any non-stock lights on your car? if so, have you been pulled over at all? That's really the only thing I'm worried about, since I can always change out the lights and put the originals back in to get the car inspected if need be.

Yes, I have front clears on a 5th gen. I kept the rear red side markers because I like how they look and because they are more obvious than front side markers. I have driven by cops and I DO hold my breath, but so far I have had no problems. I did not put super brights in the front clears. I keep the OEM orange lights in the trunk...just in case. I am going to get orange bulbs for the fronts soon.

That's a great idea. I spent a lot of time working with the police at one of my previous jobs (let's just say I was the only lowered 95SI in the police parking lot) and I asked them all sorts of questions when I would talk to them.

Its the light itself that matters. Orange illumination out of a clear lense is fine for blinker and parking lights. Red at the rear on side markers is also ok. Headlights are a tough one. Anything that resembles a blue, or what a cop deems as a blueish light (obvious headlight mods to a car that didnt come with it) coming from the headlights will get you pulled over. Yellow is not acceptable depending on the state, but I think it goes for all.

If you MUST run with clear lights, keep the orange bulbs in your car. Chances are you will get out of a ticket if you are willing to change them in front of the cop. No garantees though.

you did not specifically mention the leagality of front clears with orange bulbs. On the 5th gen, unlike the 4th gen, the front clears are side markers. They do not blink when the turn signal is activated.

You should be fine then. Cops are mainly concerned with Blinker lights, headlights, liscense plate lights, and tail lights. If they can pick out the fact that you changed the color of the original side marker lights on a 5th gen Maxima, then I would guess them an enthusiast too, and if that's the case I dont think they would be ticketing people for that reason.

It never hurts to stop and ask a cop (when they are in an approachable situation) and show them what you are talking about. They will most likely tell you that its fine. Get their business card and use it as ammo should the need ever arise.
