Right now I have a 91 GXE. I'm ready for something new. There is an 3rd generation maxima for sell around here (not sure what year it is). It's a 5 spd. white, it looks like it is in good condition. It has 125,000 miles on it though. I have no idea how much it costs. Then there is a 95 maxima SE 5 Spd. fore sale that I have found. Here is the description for that one.

depends if you want a newer car that might not be the quality the 3rd gen is, or the older car that might have more problems. Ifs its a VG 5 speed i would get the 4th gen for the power. If the 3rd gen is a VE i would take it, i like the stuff the 3rd gen has to offer. Better style, irs, etc...

 

I'd probably go with the 4th gen unless the other is a VE five speed in good condition.

IMO, go with the 4th gen...lower mialage and in the $6k range is a great deal!! **** if I was in the market now I'd steal that deal from you myself (j/k)

I saw that ad (in Autotrader, I think) for that car. In Missouri, right? I emailed the guy and he never replied.
Sounds like a good deal. Id grab it but I think I want a '97+ SE.

Go with the 4th Gen. Youll never forgive yourself for not moving up when you had the chance.

 

In your case, I would recommend a 4thGen 5spd. A newer car should be more reliable, especially if the 3rdGen turns out to be a VE.

On the other hand, a 125k is nothing for a well maintained VG. If the price is right, you could be set.

 

If you get the 3rd gen, the biggest change will be a auto-5 speed, and a 30 hp gain in hp, if the 3rd gen 5 speed is a 92-94 SE with the VE motor. Other than that, it'll be the same old car to you. It's more an upgrade than a newer car. The possible downside to this choice is that the 190 HP VE motors on the 3rd gen have a reputation for failing VTCs. One major thing to keep in mind.

With a 4th gen, on the other hand, you get a car which is completely new (to you), 5 speed, fully loaded, fast powerful, bigger than your 3rd gen, but lighter. On the down side, you loose the independant rear suspension, and quality control suffers, compared to 3rd gens. Also, now that there is the MEVI mod possible for the 4th gen, awesome power is at your reach. All the other generations, 3rd, 5th, 6th, etc have a VI, but the 4th gen was making 190 hp without it, and no failing VTCs or other motor annomolies to worry about. Imagine the power possibilities WITH a VI

yeah, Id say go with the 4th....I got my 3rd en cause it was less expensive...and that 4th is a great deal! dont let it pass you by...if you change your mind in the future..you can always sell it for 6k and buy a 3rd gen no problem.

 

what is "VI" (variable intake?), "MEVI", and "VTC"?

 

Mang...get the 4th...I just upgraded from my 3rd to this one (sig) and I absolutely love it! (5speed too)

 

Get the 4th gen, but if you can spend a little more i would look for great deal on a 97 or 98. The updated look and stock 5 spokes on them is an improvement over the 95 and 96's.
