im juss wondering if this is bad for the tranny...my friend w/ an accord drives his car as if its a manual at times.....i read on the org somewhere sometime ago that upshifting isnt good for the tranny but didnt read anything about downshifting....and im talking downshifting like a light turns red, im going 50, shift to 3rd..30 shift to 2nd...and when im at the light basically 1st.....

I tend to downshift sometimes, but I've been tryin to get out of the habit after realizing how much cheaper it is to replace brakes than a tranny. only time I really downshift now is if I'm goin uphill and want to be in 3rd gear before Max wants to shift to 3rd or somethin like that.

Unnecessarily downshifting is going to kill your tranny. The question there was about shifting it in and out of Drive into Neutral but I think once you have an understanding of what's happening internally when you shift will help you realize that it's best to keep it in D and the brakes do their job.

I think this may have been a large factor in the loss of my previous tranny, I used to manually shift at one point, but constantly downshifted to hear the intake/exhaust...
I did this pretty regularly, but I think it cooked the clutches within the autotragic... and stressed the torque convertor (This is all speculation, but I saw the insides of my tranny and it wasnt pretty).
