Newbie 1998 Maxima SE!! HELP

Im looking at a 98 Maxima SE but I am nervous about the mileage..its got 90k but it had one owner and is in great condition. Is there anything I should look for these specific cars? What about the timing belt..when will that need changing? Any info will help..thanks

No timing belt on our cars. We have timing chains and only ever so often doees one break.
Things to look for...
-accessory belts: changed yet??
- spark plugs: changed yet?
Just basic car care items to look for to see if they have been done and done properly.

I have 1998 SE as well with 94,000 miles and everything has been changed(all of above except timing chain) and she is still running strong. There are many guys on this board with 120K-160K on thier cars and they are all running great.

I also was in your situation about 2 weeks ago. I just bought a '97 Maxima SE with 68,000 miles on it. I just made sure all the maintenance was upto date on the car and had the car inspected, got a carfax on it etc.. also most importantly, test drive it. I am very happy about the car, and I hope my car will last well into the 1xx,xxx. mileage. You wont be dissapointed with the Max.

I have a 98 SE with 130k miles. I'm the original owner. If you do get that car and hvae any questions, feel free to IM or something.
BTW, I havent had any problems with faulty oil sending unit. And 98 is notorious for that problem? Havent heard that before. Maybe I've been just lucky so far.

OPSU...not a biggie...part costs like $20 and you can change it yourself. I did it, and I'm a girl!

okay for those of you who don't know me, I do suspension installs and almost all the work on my car myself!

There are a few other "known" issues on 98's:
recall on alternator (1997-1998; as long as the owner bought the car from a dealership he/she should have had a recall notice sent to them, but you can check the VIN with a dealership to see if you qualify)
rear e-brake cables and rear pad shims (all 4th gens)
OPSU (not always a problem)
knock sensor (all 4th gens)

I got the car for $8990. The car is '97 Black SE/5speed with 68,000 miles, fully loaded, leather, moonroof etc.. The car is great so far and I hope it keeps it up. I instantly fell for the car when I first took it for a drive. Goodluck with your find.
