New used maxima

Hey all, I would like to say that all of your maxima's are sick, they look awesome.

I just turned 17 and im getting a car next week. Probably a 1996-1997 maxima. I was wondering a couple of things

1. What are the differences between 96 and 97?
2. What are the most frequent problems?
3. Are there any disdvantages to owning a maxima?
4.How much woulkd a 96/97 maxima cost me at an auction or from a person?

Thanks in advance to everyone who replies

hey, basically 4th gen's have 2 styles, 95-96 and 97-99
cosmetically, the front and rear are a bit different on the cars, and older maxima's are supposedly faster due to less restriction.

as for problems...might wanna do a search...there's a wide range of problems, but not too frequent on average.

disadvantage - 4 door car for a young guy (im 19), its made for old people, handles like a boat (needs suspension mods badly).

i would recommend getting a 5spd if you want speed, as many members have done a conversion...

It's a very good choice of yours to look for a max but I think you should go for max 97-99 cause
1st, they look better.
2nd, they have more options for modding (for example red/clear tails) and a little bit easier to find.
3rd, the 97-99 are a few years younger and younger cars will last longer. I have a 95 and start having a few problems.
And that's all I can think about for now.

The biggest disadvantage for me for having a maxima is to mod it: I live in Canada and it's hella hard finding mods for cheap price and maximas are often underestimated but are very powerful.

Conclusion, if I was you, I'd buy a 99!

don't worry about it being a 4 door. They are still pimp cars, and it just gives you more room for your friends. Have fun. I wish I was 17 again.

sup, i'm 17 and i own a max 95 SE auto... it's a powerful car tat u can mostly beat out any integras or civics straight line, but handlin is really bad so definetely think about suspesion upgrades, i got my max for $8000 with 60,000k on it....

if u want a 96 get one tat's over 60,000k (cuz maintaince), if u want a 97 get one tat has less mileage (maybe 45,000), or u can even get a 98 or a 99.... but basically the newer the car is it's gonna cost more =X

being 17 is the best time to own a four-door. As it is, insurance companies are going to rape you, so at least you're driving a four door FAMILY SEDAN with airbags. It'll save you a little money, plus it has more power than the two-door cavaliers and civics that everyone else is buying.

I paid, er i should say, i'm still paying 14 grand for my 99 with 28k miles on it.

PS Sex in the backseat is fine....i'm 6'4" and i have no problems. At least it's more comfortable than my girlfriends' sunfire.
