Best Intakes...whats Available????

What would u all say is better out of all the possible intakes available in the cold air market? im looking to upgrade my cone filter from Procarparts. it was the first thing i bought and i have had it for a year now. i think my car deserves some cool air instead of the heated engine air. let me know wht u all think. some of my ideas are Injen, place racing, or i know someone who can build me a custom intake, but he cannot garentee that my service engine light wont go on. im looking into not having to move my battery or anything major like cuting holes. but if thats the best they hav were i have to i will. thanks for ur time.

Forget about the cold air

Go to frankencar and ge there short tam intake that boosts 15hp.

Also i want a deep sound

i have read alot about those intakes. last i heard they had shipping problems. also im interested in sound. i NEED a deep rumble..

do u need to drill to install the frakencar.. right now i have a jwt popcharger.. but i believe a popcharger doesn't make much of a difference so i'm upgradin' it.. but i need something easy to install.. and doesn't need to drill...

Whats so special with the Frankencar? Cant you just make the SAME one with a K&N filter and some pipping from say HD/Autozone, something like that?! I mean seriously, intakes get insanely expensive..

Frankencar is good. Only thing is the demand is higher than the production, so it'll be awhile from the time you order to the time you receive. The Frankencar removes the factory piping, so you're left with a direct pipe from the throttle body to the MAF sensor. I tested the Frankencar and it'll be up for sale shortly...this coupled with an Apex'i power intake is the best in my opinion.

Filter with velocity stack, and custom mid pipe, that is fed cool air would be the best. Buy a stillen or a JWT intake (with velocity stack) from an org member, make your own midpipe, then configure it to get outside air from the lower air box. You can also bypass the first resinator to get more air into the snorkel to feed the filter.

Search 'believer in hacked air box' for more information on all this.

It's special because its made by someone who cares about making mods for Maximas.

I always heard that the Injen was the best for Automatics. It may not be right, but that's what I hear from alot of technicians.

i satarted this thread and im sitting here reading this and im still unsure of wht u all are tryin to tell me. the frankencar uses the stock air tubing and sits behind the battery.. correct? th injen would locate somewhere towards the front? or behind the battery? is it really worth it for the cold air? basically im as blind as i waas when i started this thread. but thanks for all ur input. im not that blind just not seeing the whole pic. please help

If you are unsure just get a cone intake. I just did a poor man's HAI today and I didn't feel any low end loss at all. Top end might be a little stronger but it might be my imagination. After you are happy with the intake you can do the $15 home depot midpipe, which reuses the cone intake. Staged upgrade

And if you don't want to bother with the $15 homemade 'Home Depot' midpipe and you don't want to cut a hole in your fender for the CAI, go with the Frankencar intake. Frankencar intake sits behind the battery, and you can leave the intake piping from the front grill for a little cold air induction.

That statement is not true. The Frankencar or any other hybrid is good for both autos and 5 speeds.

I guess i need an injen... how much does this cost in the market these days?

if not an injen.. a new velocity stack and a new midpipe would be nice..

homemade is definately the way to go. i made this hybrid intake myself. here are some pics of the self-made mid-pipe with a JWT open end Popcharger.

Why spend 150.00 on an intake that will perform the exact same as one that costs 35.00. Intakes are easy to make, save your money for somthing else that is'nt. Take advantage of the information sharing on the org and save some $$$

Switching to Frankencar

Right now I'm running with the Injen intake; however, I will be switching to the Frankencar intake soon. I did pick up some low end but I lost a noticeable amount of high end pickup. Besides, isn't there someone here on the boards who had dynoed their car with an Injen intake only to find out that they didn't gain anything? I can't seem to find the thread.

Speaking of making you own intake, i started my quest to build one. Well i hit a road block. I went to Wal-Mart, Autzone, AND Discount Auto and NOONE has the MAF bracket for the K&N filter. What the hell am i supposed to do? Can i use one from another car? I know ours measures 2" X 4" (the plate)

Commmon make up your mind already

Man Franken car is the way to go, If not K & N is the next best thing. Cold Air just isnt Worth it unless you have turbo.

A word of caution; the adapter inside the air box wasn't held by 4 screws like the instructions said. Instead there were 2 thingys that made the adapter an absolute ***** to remove and it will most likely end up bent.

those thingys are rivets, and im also in the quest to build my own intake but i have to start from scratch. does anyone know where i can get a cone filter and a MAF adapter for cheap, new or used? because i dont think i wanna try to take the ring out of the airbox.
