Need help: whining noise after timing belt changed

I did the timing belt change yesterday on my 93 max and since then i've got a whining noise, here are the symptoms:

Can be heard at lower RPM's when eng speed decreasing. If I take RPM's up to 1500 in nuetral/park and let off the gas I get the infamous "whirrrrrrrrrr" I removed ALL accesory drive belts but noise still is present. Car runs normal except for noise.

I'm suspecting the timing belt itself or the tensioner to make that noise: could be that the belt is tensioned a bit too much...but I'm really not sure!

Do you have an idea of what could cause this whining noise?
If it is the tension, is it worth putting everything apart (again) to tune the tensioner again, or is it without any consequence on the belt/tensioner's life span?

I hope i didn't messed anything up while doing the timing belt replacement!!!

Thanks for your reply

This summer i did the same thing to my car... Changed the timeing belt, put it all back together,.... and it winned. Well if i were you i would take it all apart and loosen the timeing a little. thats all it took for me. i dont think it could have damaged any thing cause ive gone 10000 miles since then and had no problem. All i can say is, Have fun taking it all apart again, Cause i didnt.

Thanks

for your advice, i'm gonna put everything apart again today and loosen a bit the tbelt (hope it's not too cold out there...)

Or could I drill a hole through the lower cover of the timing belt to get access to the tensioner?!

Thanks for your help

Did you replace the tensioner when you did the belt? They do wear out and it can be very expensive if they seize! There is a set procedure for tensioning the belt involving the use of a spacer. The Haynes book and the factory manuals have good write ups on this.

If i were you i wouldnt drill a hole in the cover cause it was really hard to retension mine and you wouldnt be able to get it correct cause you wouldnt be able to feel the belt while your doing it.

Damn, i'm done with this freakin' tbelt

I've been removing the lower par of the timing belt cover today and loosened the tension a bit.

Now everything seems to be alright, the belt is still whining just a little (or maybe i'm making this noise up), but the tension is right.

Thanks all of u for your advices,

Julien

Damn, why is this grease so hard to take of the hands!!
