New Best 14.533 & 96.48 with Intake+Y-pipe

It was a good day at the track. Matt (96sleeper) and I meet up again to best our previous times.

My best of the day:

60ft 2.203
1/8 9.365 & 76.99mph
1/4 14.533 & 96.48mph

I backed that one up with a 14.58 & 96.46mph.

First run of the day I hit my best mph at 97.15mph with a 14.607 1/4 and a 2.24 60ft.

Mods = JWT Intake, and WSP Y-pipe, with FULL interior!

Side note: 5spd Maximas better watch out for 96Sleeper!!!

Awfully good mph for a 98! You bested my 2K2 mph with that 97.15 and I have more mods. Only reason I got a better et is I got a better 60'. Way to go!

Congrats!

You should see low 14's soon. I dropped a little more time with an exhaust

Yep, on the short list for purchase is: ACT Clutch, Flywheel, UDP, and B-pipe.

It seems that the clutch needs to be done first. It slips first and second doesn't grip like it used to!

You should see even higher m.p.h. with a new one. I want to go to Steele this Sunday, get some baselines on the GTP, before getting a smaller pulley, CAI, exhaust and PCM. Maybe you guys could meet us there.

If lived closer I would be there every Sunday, but 3 plus hours is a little much. I have a wedding coming up so I have to do somethings, (so I am told ) LOL.... I will see though.

There was a gtp there running 14.6's-14-5's at about 94-95mph. Not sure what he had done though?

What was your highest trap in the SHO?

The SHO hit 98 with a slipping clutch. That GTP may be stock. There was a guy in a GTP last time I went, running 14.4-14.5. He said it was stock.

If not this Sunday, maybe the next.

Jeremy, 15.4 is awesome for that generation!

Just give me a shout when Beech Bend opens up again.

The Y-Pipe are now available for the 2k2's, but I want to get some more base times before I make the decision.

Should be a great race.

What was the setup of your car that allowed you to run so fast and what was your shifting points, technique, launch rpm?

For Launching I had my KYB AGX settings on 1 in the front and 8 in the rear. PSI in tires was 26.5 lbs (Dunlop Sport A2's), and RPM for launching was about 800-1000 if that. I do low rpm launches because my clutch isn't gripping like it used to. I have found them to be effective though?

Shift points were: right to red line in 1st, about 6,200-6,300rpms in 2nd, about 6,100 in 3rd, and finishing it up in 4th. Those are about the rpms that I was shifting at, might be a little off because I also go by ear on what my intake sounds like? lol

I release the throtle just bairly between shifts and clutch goes all the way in each time (as fast as I possibly can though ha).

Car had full interior, with spare tire, jack and tools romoved from trunk. Gas was about 1/4 tank of 93.

Spark Plugs, Fuel Filter, and PCV valve had all been changed within the last 5,000 miles.

Hope that helped to answer your question?

Wow this is helping me push for my 5spd
all of a sudden tonight I just came home wanting a 5spd Maxima. Right now I have my auto 95 but I am sick of it.
I can't wait until I get one. Do you have any transmission mods? or just a y-pipe and intake?

Just y-pipe and intake. Clutch and flywheel need to be done soon though.

nice time dude! that car is making good HP from the mph you're showing. i miss racing! sometimes my car feels as if at any given moment it will hit the 13s. we got the same tires. you might wanna try lowering the fronts to about 15-16psi to get better 60's. we use similar launching methods. how sick is that? basically we launch the car almost like a casual launch as opposed to other cars who have to abuse their clutches doing 4000+rpm clutch drops! how do you like those b&g springs?

Hey! I like my 5500rpm clutch drops! I only wish I had an aftermarket clutch so I could drop it from redline!

I love my B&G drop, and the ride they give. I think my B&G's and AGX's are my favorite mod so far!

I will try to lower my tire pressure and see if I can cut some low 2.1's. That would put me in the low 14.4 range I think? I like these tires, but I feel like I am running through them like butter?? lol

Hopefully WSP can get my 2.5 b-pipe out to me before my next track outing.

cutting 2.1 60's might put you in the 14.3-14.4 range. why not jump in on the OBX catback deal. it's for nearly the same price as the warpspeed bpipe alone. that's what i would have gotten if it were available at the time i was looking. oh well.

Yeah, I have been debating on the OBX catback. WSP has my order, but they don't have the pipe yet so they haven't charg my card just yet.... I just don't want a loud exhaust, and had planned on keeping the stock muffler on for awhile?

You think the OBX system will bolt on to a stock muffler if I find it too loud?

I wouldn't count on getting low 2.1s. It's possible but not at all likely. VQdriver is the only person on the org that I know of that can get low 2.1s every time he goes out, everyone else that gets them gets a fluke run that may be a low-mid 2.1 and the rest are worse. He's one person out of about 15,000 on the org.

I got a 2.120 on one run and 2.147 on the next last time out. And that's with a lot of wheel hop. 2.0s is not impossible with these cars with traction.

Maybe everyone needs to stop doing those high rpm launches then?

I was talking about manual tranny cars, I know the 2k2 autos can get out of the hole well if launched just right.

Slicks...can't really compare. Clint you would be running 14.1's with a 2.00 60 ft time, and around a 14.0 with a 1.9 60 ft time.

Actually, I think the weather would need to be perfect, and I would have to strip my interior down to accomplish this? But anything is possible I guess? lol

You guys need to meet me at Steele soon, I finally ran my GTP, and ran my best time so far at a slower track.

Its stock right now, save for a K&N drop in. My cross over pipe is also damaged, hurting the power output a little I am sure.

I ran at Silver Dollar Raceway, which is usually around 2/10ths and 1-2 m.p.h. slower. I got my launch down and ran a 14.594. I think I can run a 14.3-14.4 at Steele, and would like to give it a shot before I start to modify the car. My best m.p.h. so far has been between 94-95, and that was at Steele last Sunday, when it was 72 degrees. I was launching terribly though, 1/4 throttle, then mashing the gas as I got going. I finally got the method down for this car now though, stall at around 1,500-2,000 rpms, then get on the gas as I let up on the brake.

Let me know when you guys can make it, it would be like old times.

I am ready to go back. Only problem is I don't have off any Sundays this month! Maybe the first of March unless I can't get a day off?
