a 3rd gen in an auction, worth the price??
a 3rd gen in an auction, worth the price??
me and my friend went hunting for a 3rd generation for him. We found a 93 Dark blue 5 speed nissan Maxima SE with 144,000 miles.
It was selling in the auction for 2500. The thing is, he did a kbb on the car and it came up to be 3,277 at good condition. This car has a few problems. Radio doesnt work well, the driver side switch wont look the rest of the doors, there's a small crack on the back bumper and the back right window cant come back up when put down. Also, some of the other windows are showing signs of a weak regulator or motor because they come up slower than usual. The paint is in GREAT condition, the engine is cleaned to perfection and doesnt show any problems. There is a minor sound of squeeking but nothing to go crazy about. Also the shift **** and boot look like they've beeen mangled by a dog.
The auction place said that 2 other people were coming to see car but after seeing the problems with the car, i personally dont think its worth the 2500. First off, no one really buys car at kbb price, normally below it and this is an auction, not a dealer or private party, they should be selling it a little less than normal anyway and with the problems this car has, i think 2500 is a descent price.
I just want to know what you guys think about this. I told him to hold off on it or think about it because we did not expect the problems it had and fixing might be more than usual.
The thing is we dont have full cash and are trying to make them buy his car (94 corolla 5 speed) and put money on the side to pay for car but with the problems, i would say a good 2300 should be fine if not a little less.

that'a fair price.
Expect it to have some more problems, but then again you're not paying that much for it to be that worried.
I think it's okay.
If i would have seen that car at that price this summer i would have bought it
that blue color, paired with a 5 speed is extremely hard to come by.
my old 93 SE:

i saw a really clean blue (same blue as steves old) 94 SE 5 spd at a Sports Plus parking lot near me with black leather, air bag, everything
didnt see a for sale sign on it, so i hung outside there in the cold parking lot that night waiting for the owner to come out, i would of given him an offer and see if he would sell it; but i got too cold and felt foolish waiting there and it wasnt even for sale..plus it also had 130k miles as i peeked at the stickers; eh oh well back to my pos auto..
