Maxima Alarm

Hi I am new to the forum as well as a new owner of a 2002 Maxima. I have been browsing post's about HID's getting stolen. I have some questions about the alarm system that comes with the vehicle. To me this alarm seems more like a system to lock and unlock the doors only. What features does it have and what kind of vehicle protection does it provide? Can the initial system be updraded with aftermarket accessories, such as proximity sensor, starter kill, mercury switch or the like.

Thanks

JR

Search for my previous post which will tell you how I got my user name.

Basically, it is a POS. Do not count on it as it is easily defeated. I don't know if you can add extra sensors but the fact that you can disable it from the door handle makes it very vunerable. Spend more money to get another system.

I would suggest aftermarket. I don't use the stock alarm for anything except to open my trunk.

aftermarket alarm

I would recommend getting an aftermarket alarm. The factory alarm is easily defeated via the door handle. I lost my HIDs this way.

I recently got a Viper 600ESP installed by Don (pearl96max). It has a shock sensor, engine kill, and I got Don to add a prox sensor and battery backup as well. There is a model that provides remote start and 2-way paging capability if you want to splurge for that. You want an experienced installer doing the job for you - if you are in the NJ area, you should definitely lookup Don.

Monish.
