Who uses a Bosch Knock Sensor?

Ok I can't really find a clear answer to if using a Bosch Knock Sensor is safe or not, I bought one for 110 shipped should I have gone with JR Nissans 120 shipped sensor? What is the difference? Is it safe to use? Do you guys use one? Please help as I really need to know if I should cancel the Bosch one and order one from JR...

Re: Who uses a Bosch Knock Sensor?

I just replaced my OEM knock sensor with the bosch version last week. Funny thing is that they look almost exactly identical....makes me wonder if the oem one is actually a bosch too. Either way the sensor won't "harm" your car by using it. Search around on the forum, this topic has been discussed before I believe.

So why are you guys replacing your knock sensors? And is it difficult? Thanks.

After a while maxima knock sensors go bad, creating poor gas milage, poor performance, etc... The ecu detects its bad and retards the timing.

That's not what I meant. I just meant 'why are you guys changing yours?'. Are you getting the 0304 code, do you feel hesitation, are you doing it at a certain mileage interval just because?, etc., etc.

I would assume you get a code... I wouldn't go changing my knock sensor if I didn't have a 3,4 (which i do btw )

Well, I too was getting the code. But among other codes. I wasn't sure if I needed to address all codes or if some were triggered by others. I forget the numbers right now but I had O2 sensor right bank, fuel injector right bank and knock sensor. Well Friday night I went to do my O2 sensors. I read the codes before hand just for the heck of it. I also had a O2 sensor left bank! Well, luckily I bought all three O2 sensors so that wasn't a problem. After I changed the two upstream sensors, I reset the computer, drove around and checked my codes. I only had the knock sensor(0304). Well, putting this off for weeks now because I didn't want to remove the upper intake manifold, I realized my wife's skinny wrist will fit in there! So I did the knock sensor Sat. Now I get no more codes (0505). I can't tell a difference at all with my car. It seemed fine before, it seems fine now. But at least I sleep better at night. I recommend using someone with small hands so you can save a lot of time with the knock sensor.

seems the consensus that the knock sensor will give you a false piggyback code...so if you get it in combination with other things, fix them, then run your codes again...if you still get it, or get it by itself to begin with then go ahead and switch it out...

To answer the why question, I was getting hesitation in the middle of my powerband, pulled the codes( with no CEL), and got the 0304. Pretty painless for me...I guess that was my payback for never being able to palm a basketball

Josh you know that 0505 means the car is running all well reset and move on there is nothing wrong with your car. It is in the haynes manual.

I know! That's why I said I have no more codes.

Thanks Jaime.
