after budget y pipe install...

Well before I could notice any hp gains, I noticed the change is sound of the max. Idle is very nice, a low rumble sound. I dont like when it hits about 2k rmps, the stillen muffler gives it a weird sound, but then it goes away. The install took 2 hours- only because the front O2 sensor was a ***** to get out and the y pipe and cat didnt want to come apart. I cant tell performance wise any difference, because there is snow all over and i dont get much of any traction, but i can feel a slight difference. Is there supposed to be a different smell, I am not sure if this is the paint and debris burning off inside the pipe? YOu guys were right though, I'm not dissapointed!

The smell will go away after a day. Its the paint and grease burning off.

Smell might be the added pollution that your letting out from the new pipe....if it happens only when cold, then its probably just this, if its all the time, its what BlackCat said.

burning off paint - no good !!!

After having my budget y-pipe for over 4 months now ,
had my car on the lift and I got shocked - the y-pipe was already badly corroded !!! to be honest it was more "rusty" than any other part of my exhaust 97 se 120 K
supposelly - it's stainless stell ?????????
hopefully it will last for another 2-3 years
anyway sometime after gets warmer - I'm gonna take it off and spray -paint it with high temp engine paint

Nick

P.S I hope it's SS !!!!

I just installed the budget Y myself. The whole Pipe is not stanless--but most of it is. Not very quality stainles--but it is ss. The flanges are not, and where the flex attaches it is not. I checked this out myself. When I received I thought there was no way it was ss, but I checked it out and sure enough--it was.

Just because it is SS does NOT mean it won't rust/corrode. There are different kinds of SS and different grades.

Everything I've read indicates any paint that's laid on any y-pipe will NOT stay for long.

The performance gain is there. trust me. you will love it.

When I had my car returned to stock, I raced a friend's 00 prelude. By the time we hit about 80mph, we were about even. After that, Prelude kept walking away and by about 120, he was like 4 cars ahead and I wasnt gonna catch him.

Now with PRCAI and ypipe (budget), I raced him again. Both of us with good, even starts, I had about a car on him by 60, and after I kept gaining and gaining. It was apparent he wasn't gonna catch me. We took it up to about 120mph this time also. Both of us were very amazed what what a ypipe does for maximas.

Since then I added RT cat and a catback, and I saw another nice power improvement.

was that with or without spraying

high temp engine paint wont do a damn thing...we painted some of that stuff onto a friends header, and the minute the car started after we installed it, the thing just started baking off....2 weeks later, hardly any paint left...don't waste the time and effort.

From what I've read about the pioe at Motorvate.ca the paint is just cosmetic. No biggie.

well today the roads were dry and I got to take a little test w/ the y pipe.... thats all I can say. I def. noticed the gains!! Traction is a little hard to keep though. I love it! The sound still has to grow on me though at 1500rpms. I'll have to hope this one doesnt rust out or anything like that. Is there anything I could coat the y pipe in to make sure it doesnt??

well I live in Buffalo, NY....we get plenty of snow and have enough salt on the roads so that they will be white for the next several months.

I was going to buy a budget in the next few months or sooner and am now having second thoughts. Does it really corrode after a few months. I need more testemonials to the contrary before i make my decision.

96max5sp just get the pipe if your serious about the mod. Worse case being that there is a problem, and they don't last (which I highly doubt) you can always buy another....If my memory serves me right, was budget not selling all their pipes SS. I know they are ss now, but in the past...and if so, how long ago.

All Budget Pipes are T-304 Stainless Steel and have been that way for over a year. They stopped making Aluminized Steel and the cheaper SS a long time ago.

As far as being corroded after 4 months, pretty far tetched. You probably got it dirty and baked in on or some such event. I had mine installed in the winter and after 6 months it still looked like new.
