I'm in on the Coil-overs. I can't justify going and getting springs $200+shipping, and Struts (300-450$+shipping), when I can get a complete coil-over by a JSPEC company for $1000 including shipping. Hence, my desire to get a group deal going.

That's a good deal! I've been looking for the Tein SS coilovers. Since we're both located in the Seattle area, couldn't shipping be even less, if we have 2 sets shipped together to the same address?

Wow, you both from Seattle, WA? Same here. Damn if you 2 are in, then I am in. So how about shipping 3 sets of Tein SS coil-overs to WA for a price of 2?

We should meet sometimes.....I have other brand of coil-over on my car right now!

Yeah, seriously. I think that if we ship 3 sets together to 1 address, we should definitely get a discount on that. Just an idea, but maybe something like $1000 or up to $1050 shipped per set for 3 sets? That way we can just get them now...2kSeattleMax, could you find out for us?

Believe those are the prices with shipping. Forgot to mention that. I can't see why we can't get a discount if we consolidate the order. I'll check into it.

Hey ... how does Tein and the coilovers included in the GB compare with the JIC's?

Using the very simple logic that price = quality .. I would ordinarily conclude that these are not as impressive as the JIC's which go for about $1500-1700 USD.

Get any specs or comparisons?

Ciao!

I think that issue was discussed in the 5th gen forum. I'm open to any constructive guidance. Although, I have heard repeatedly from various sources that Tein is good. Let me know if you find anything out.

unless you're planning on doing some major autocrossing, i doubt you will feel a difference...but if you are JIC for you......
i think the biggest difference was that JIC came w/ camber plates/bolts built in...im not sure if TEINs do
holla

Tein products are the ****!

JIC makes 2 different models for 5th gen Maximas. There's the lower priced SF-1 is still more expensive than the retail price of the Tein SS. The SF-1 is a coilover setup with adjustable ride height, but NOT adjustable dampening. JIC's higher priced FLT-A2 adds that plus a few other improvements. I would say that the JIC FLT-A2 is slightly better than the Tein SS, but not worth the $500+ dollar difference IMO.

I think this GD is going to have problems.

I spoke directly with Tein on the Type-SS. They aren't going to be available to customers until mid-march since they are so new in development.

In addition, I inquired about Camber adjustment requirements. Our cars can't be dropped more than 2" without camber plates. These coil-overs can do 3 in front 2.5 in back. However, the Tein guy couldn't tell me if the factory pillowball mounts for camber are required or not. I'll assume camber plates are a requirement and aren't factored into the cost.

Hence....looks like more investigation is required.

Am I correct in saying that the Tein SS coilover doesn't have pillowball mounts?
For me, waiting to March would be ok, as long as I know what I'm getting.

But their springs drop more than 2" in the front...my car is dropped more than 2" currently and I don't see any problems yet....

So are they going to offer pillowball mounts for maximas now? then it's gonna cost more than $1250 retail for sure.

I called Tein. He doesn't have any in stock yet so he couldn't confirm the pillowball mounting, etc. I might let this go until Mid-March....I just bought progress and tokico's cause I didn't want to wait.

So does that mean you have to buy a camber kit then? (i.e. Stillen's for $335.41? Click Here for Link

Who knows, my car is lowered than 2" and have no problem. But if you are gonna get camber plate + Tein SS coil-over system. You might be better off getting JIC for about the same price, since they are a better system that came with pillow ball upper mounts already.

I guess for Tein SS, it all boils down to --reduce suspension travel and possible negative camber (mess up alignment) when lowering it too much (who doesn't if you are getting a coil-over )

Primarily the main differences are that the SS is a

possibly Mild Steel body that has special coating

It's twin tube, may not include upper pillowball mounts. JIC is monotube

Independent ride height and preload. That's the big one.

Ideally everyone wants a suspension that can be lowered without sacrificing any ride quality at all. That's what the twin perch style system can do.

The higher end Teins have them also, but they are for race only and will not handle the abuse of street driving. JIC is a good compromise. Don't give any bearing to my name. I carry both lines. Just detailing some differences as a member has asked.

I run the JIC's on my RX7 and love them. Also on a Protege5. FLT-A2 only. I like them a lot. The Tein SS is good for those who can't afford the FLT-A2, but the gains are not marginal. They are huge. Welll worth a wait IMO.
