Brake shims....

OK, I hate to admit it, but I think I might have messed up here. I recently did my rear pads and rotors (88 Max). The replacement pads have a metal back to them. I figured since they were metal, I didn't need shims. Have I made a huge mistake here? When I did the fronts a couple weeks ago, I happened to have shims on hand and used them even though the new pads also had the metal backing.

Thanks

I think you do have to use the shims. Dunno what will happen when you don't use them. The last time my brakes were touched, my friend replaced them for me. S

It doesnt seem to matter my front ones dont have it and they have the metal backing my back ones do. When I changed my front ones for the first time the right shim was missing. Ive heard that with the new brake pads of today they really dont need them. Ive asked certain people about it they all say it doesnt matter.
