V2 In - Stock Y-pipe Sux

well jeff installed my V2 ,car came out on thurs afternoon..asides from running rich as hell which i know i have to tune my car and buy a AFC i havent bought a y-pipe yet. so with the stock set up how much HPs am i being robbed of?
i have a catback exhaust,stock convertor.

i have only boosted 6-7 PSI and im on a 3.25 pulley

funny part was last night i was out from a roll of about 60mph i gunned it

@ one point the rpms held up between 5k and 6k and then released

like as if all the air wasnt being abled to be pushed out

weird to explain...

tranny is shifting fine no slips as of yet**knockin on wood** - auto-

VB mod has been re-done again for the V2 tranny cooler in

so hopefully coming up with the y-pipe it would be different ?
warpspeed budget ?

i mean dam...does it really steal u of the full affects of the V2 ?

Well, according to many V2 owners, a y-pipe is a MUST! I just ordered mine from budget last week so I can't really tell u from experience. but once I get that piece, it's gonna go on that same day and I will let u know how it feels. I have read that it does a lot to your 1/4 mile time and performance overall. I believe that the stock y-pipe does steal HP from the charger but again, I will let u know once I install the budget. I have a 3.125 pulley right now and I ony get 7psi which is pretty low! I can't figure out what could be wrong. Maybe it's my blower cuz everything else is installed correctly. We'll see if my boost increases with the new y-pipe....

Do you have a CAI? you should be boosting more like 10.5-11PSI with that pulley size or your not shifting at 6500 RPMS to 2nd to third to 4th etc..

Jay25: I don't have a CAI but I wouldn't think that it would steal 3-4 psi, would it? I have a autometer boost gauge and I have changed all of the nylon hose to a vacuum hose to get a better reading, but I end up with the same readings. I dynoed at 280 fwhp with just a greddy catback exhaust, test pipe, and 1 step colder plugs. Is this how much HP I should be having? I should be getting my y-pipe probably by tomorrow and will be installing an AFC so that I can dyno this friday hopefully. What numbers should I be expecting with the extras? I am hoping for at least 320 fwhp. DO u think that it is possible? If u have any info on why my car is boosting so low, please let me know. thanx again.

~AC

BTW, When I race, I redline to 6500 and my boost only reads 7psi.

I don't know about power numbers, but I know the ypipe helped me gain 0.7 in the quartermile!

FYI : having a free flow exhaust system will lower your EGT....give you more boost time. Right now, I have a y-pipe but no cat back. It takes a few seconds to hit the 800 limit on a roll. with a free flow system, you will be able to release all the heat trapped in there.

Budget has their prices set at $250 canadian which would be like $160 US. That's why I got the budget.

Jer: .7 in the 1/4 mile! that's a hella of an increase! I hope I get those results as well. What upgrades do u have? manual or auto?

I heard the RT cat does not provide any gain. I would go with the test pipe. But getting a ticket for no cat will cost you about 2 - 3k. best combo IMO is a stock muffler and a custom Bpipe.

my MPG right now is about 21 - 22. 70% high way, 30% local.

You will boost higher with the CAI, think about it like this stick your hand out the window, now how about the filter on the bottom of the fenderwell just catching air and the blower sucking/catching all that air coming in. Your going to boost .5-1.5 PSI more. thats just my 02. cents.

Last night allgo came by the house, he wanted me to take a look at his set up with the CAI and see how the car drives. He has a 3.125 pulley smaller then my. No problem, he has his cat converter on, and my car drove like his car did prior to free flowing my exhaust system. Then we jumped into my car and it pulled harder then his with a larger pulley 3.25 pulley. The only difference is he has that dual friction clutch and I have the ACT which grabs very hard.

Jay25: Your car pulled harder than Allgo's? U have a 3.25, am i correct? and he has a 3.125, right? How come yours pulled harder? Do u guys have the same modifications besides the pulleys? BTW, I installed my y-pipe today and the car felt much stronger especially on top end. But my boost gauge only reads 8psi now. How difficult is it to make a CAI for our setups? IF it makes that much of a difference, then I would not mind installing one. How does the MAF reach to the other side? Sorry for so many ???'s . Oh yeah, my exhaust got super loud after installing the y-pipe. IT does not sound like it used to. I have the greddy cat back and a test pipe with resonator, and it got much louder. Sounds ricey, like a beefed up 4 banger. I am not liking it too much but maybe the noise level will drop more the more I drive it. We'll see.

I don't have the "bees in the can" sound but I definitely noticed my exhaust much louder. I also felt a lot more gain in the top end. I raced my first victim with the new budget y-pipe after I installed it today. I was driving around town looking for someone to play with and I could not find anything that would be in my same league until a S2K got next to me at a light. I was juiced cuz I have been wanting to run one of these suckers to see how I can do against them. Well, I try to instigate a race by revving my engine and so he then revvs his. So now I knew that it was on! Well, the light turns green and BAMM! we take off! I took off smooth with little spin on the tires so I had a good launch and I was up by 1/2 a car length on 1st gear. I shifted hard and quick into 2nd and by the end of 2nd, I was about a 1 car length ahead. But this is where I felt the MAX pull its hardest...3rd gear! by the end of 3rd, I was like 3 car lengths ahead of him, maybe even more. I shifted into 4th and I got fuel cut but by that time I already put my hazards! That made my night! BTW, I had three heads in my car and the S2K had only the driver. I can't imagine what it would have been like with only me driving. That would have been a crazy kill! I video taped it just in case someone didn't believe me. So, yeah, I felt a great gain with the pipe not only cuz I killed that S2K but cuz my RPM's were moving much quicker than it used to. My exhaust is loud but the performance takes over the noise so it's all good!
