I went and saw the new Z today (in person), and it is boring. The only exciting thing about it was the metallic orange painted brake calipers. The concept looked unfinished with that rectangular grill and random metal lights in the bumper. In person, it doesn't look any better than in the photos. It was cool though, seeing and touching what may be the only new Z currently in existence.
I didn't like it at first, but... I can see it. I know they are going to get rid of any edges the interior (Which is good I think, the steering wheel had to go) the only things that bothered me at frist is the following:
1) From the front it looks like the new Celica, heck the new SE-R looks meaner{almost a GT-R type grill})
2) The rear looks like a Acura CL
3) The overall shape looks like a Porsche in a less-wide and taller stance.
4) 260hp? I guess its right for a $30k sports car, but something closer to the Z-turbo 300hp would've turned heads more.
I think if they wanted to wow people, just bring the Skyline over. hehe. BTW, is it just me or did I remember reading they are going to? If that's the case, doesn't that blow the Z out of the water?

whatever
make a convertable model with a turbo and i'll think about it (think about where to get the $ that is)
the se-r v-spec seems pretty badass as well. - make a convertable model & i'm in for sure, right now. what did they do for the extra 10 hp over the regular se-r, stick the vaiable muffler on it, chip the redline up a notch? either way with 180 hp (close to stock 4th gen) on a light car (waay lighter than 4th gen) & a 6 speed (sweet) it'll probably spank my 5th gen pretty good.
if i'm plunking down for a weekend 'toy' car, it has to be faster than (or at least as fast as) my maxima & have a top that drops for the real experience.
m roadster, boxter s, & 911 too expensive, miata & mr2 too slow. (american pos's not even a consideration) please help me out nissan.
I dunno. The SE-R Vspec looks really nice to me. I'm going to try and talk my Girlfriend into one. She's currently looking at GTIs. I put my name on the list to be notified when they arrive. It looks like quite an impressive little car.
Nissan won't repeat a mistake...
We should all keep in mind that the old Z car went out of production mainly due to it's evolving into a car that was too expensive in price, insurance and repair costs. Its target market, young people, just couldn't afford them anymore. This is also somewhat true for the demise of the Mazda XR-7 and Toyota Supra. Nissan doen't want to make the same mistake again. And that's why the new Z may not have all the bells and whistles you would like. But if it strengthens Nissan's product line as a more modest sports car, we may all benefit. But if you want turbos, convertibles, etc., buy a Porsche, if you can afford one.
