Hey guys I need you to tell me which mods I can get to help me go faster but still keep my nice quiet ride. I know i'm gonna get an ECU upgrade. Probably this Valve body mod everyone with an auto keeps talkin about. What else is out there? It never made any sense to me to put intakes and full exhausts on automatic cars so what other choices do i have, if any? Please help!!! I know between all of you in this organization the knowledge is vast.

P.S.
Can somebody get this damn Newbie tag off my back!!!!

You should probably take a ride in my car (see sig) and then tell me if it makes sense to mod an auto.

If you don't want to mod the intake or exhaust, you don't have many options. Not sure about ECU upgrades as I have yet to see widespread success with them.

The VB mod will not increase your HP but it will help get the power you do have to the ground more efficiently. I have driven a car with this mod (a '98GXE) and the difference is striking. This mod is next on my wish list.

For true HP gains, the best bang for the buck for HP gains is probably the ypipe from either Stillen or Cattmann but I'm not sure of current pricing on either. If you keep your stock exhaust, you will only get the familiar hiss from the ypipe which can be deadened with thermal wrap (or so I'm told). I never bothered to try and quiet down my car after I modded it. There will be no rumble or anything like that from an aftermarket exhaust. A cold-air intake (CAI) might not be a bad idea either but you did say you wanted to leave the intake and exhaust alone.

Hold on now

Don't get me wrong JJ, I just said it never made any sense to me about modding an auto. I always see these civics and toyotas with the exhaust and intake in atomatics and it makes a whole lot of noise but they don't go anywhere. I pull up to them in my stock maxima and once i floor it they're eating my dust unless its like a super charged SI or sumthing. My only concern is keeping the noise to a minimum. If i'm wrong about what i have said about exhaust and intakes making alot of noise than please correct me and let me know how to go about modding my baby.

Yeah maybe i should take a ride in your car. I wanna know what that SC is all about.

I agree with everyting Jim said EXCEPT his statement about aftermarket exhausts. My Greddy cat-back does have a rumble sound. I don't find it offensive, but other Max owners do.

I've got an intake and Stillen y-pipe with an auto. It sounds same as stock when at idle and during normal driving. The only difference is when you stomp on it. It makes this roar that sounds great to me. Kinda hard at first to keep my foot out of it. I certainly felt the difference in performance.

VB mod

Is this VB mod the valve body mod. If I get an automatic 95-97 Maxima SE I may be interested in doing the mod. Roughly how much does this cost and roughly how much $$ to install?
