Greddy SP - Rusting?? whats going on
I had my exhaust installed at the begining of winter. I had the car up on a hoist today and noticed that the welds in the catback are rusting!!
Also a small area about 2" surface rust on the resonator.
Whats with that..I thought this puppy was 304 stainless steel? Why are they using cheap welding rods on the joints?
Yes I did drive it through winter..but even with just rain during better seasons it would rust. I know its only the first season ..and has not rusted through..but what will happen over time.
Any ideas?

Really?! I have a custom downpipe back exhaust on my Volvo 850 Turbo, made from T-304, that's about 3 years old, in Toronto, and I still have no external rust on it whatsoever, even under the exhaust wrap (got paranoid about it, and decided to check it after 2 years).
Greddy's are aluminized steel pipe with stainless (409 vs 304) steel muffler.
The back-facing part of my muffler is rusting already... not a half year old. Will be polishing the muffler in the spring i guess.

I did do alot of research..said in many places that the catback was all 304 stainless.
Perhaps all the feed back I got was from people in the south (that don't have beautiful white stuff falling from the sky as I do in Canada)
Well this is very upsetting..so I will prob wait till spring and treat the area with some high temp rust proof paint then store it for the winter.
Yet I guess they don't make a totally stainless steel catback for our cars.

well i have had the sp for three years the piping is alumanized mild steel which means lots of rust is on the way and 304 does not rust ever, look at a good kichen sink.My flange between muffler and b pipe completly rusted apart and i had to have it welded together with a coupling the pipe is filled with holes now and the flange connected to the cat is almost off ,the sad thing is the muffler is 304 stainless but that will have to go in the trash because there is no pipe that will hook up to it ,it does not have the stock flange locations.Unless the obx b pipe would hook up to the greedy muffler ,i hope?I would still have to have a flange welded back on i wonder who sells 304 stainless flanges?
My greddy has been on the car 2 years and it looks like CRAP. The only part that is still shiny is the tip, the muffler is all tarnished and rusted out. I dont know if the winter theory is entirely correct either. My greddy was rusted before It was brought up to Reno (fairly cold winters) and before that it was from LA since 97. Your best idea would be call greddy.
dont you phuckers clean your greddy?

ive had it for atleast 2 years.. more like 2 and 3/4.

Don't get me wrong, I spray the underbody of my car, but I don't actually get under there and wash.
yea i do... its a big PITA, but in the long run i guess its worth it.... ive gotten pulled over several times because my muffler was too shiny... they didnt comment on the size of the tip, but they just expressed concern because it its almost blinding at night .. or so they said...
