4th Gen Frankencar Mid-Pipe works on the VE!!!!!!!
4th Gen Frankencar Mid-Pipe works on the VE!!!!!!!
My friend got his frankencar mid-pipe for his 4th gen and before installing it I decided to try it on my 92 SE. The fit is perfect. The only modification that has to be done is that the 4th gen has 3 hose outlets which two of them you use but there is a small one that you have to plug which would be what I would do or possibly electrical tape it closed. I am ordering a red mid-pipe for my car and as soon as I get it on my car I will update you with pics and if I feel any difference because you do remove the resonator hopefully I'll feel something or anything I'm buying it just for looks. I'm not getting the CAI I am scared about hydro-locking my engine so I think this is the best alternative.
I now its a like a chance in hell...but I wouldn't "tape" up ANY hole where there is vaccum....getting tape sucked into your motor or hitting the MAF sesor thingy isn't cool!!! IMO get a decent plug!

I 100% agree that is why I would plug it and not electrical tape it. I should have Pics up by Saturday.

I am going to use a plastic plug so I'll see how it goes, I will also take a picture of the plug I use so you guys get an idea.

I really need to get a pic after I painted it with blue high temp paint. It looks very clean.

nice i never thought of using plumbing fitings like that i tried bypassing all that stuf with just a piece of solid ruber tube and hade mini filters on my iac and valve cover vent and it took me a minuite to figure out why my car wouldnt idle i had to put the stock one back on and just ducktaped the hell out of the resonatot and valve vent holes it works fine so far but would like a perminiant solution and i could in corpurate my nitrous nozal into that also thanks
I'm sorry, but that thing really looks like an illegal drug implement of some sort
.... Maybe I've been watching too many movies...

water going into the engine through the intake, lets just say that its very bad and that if it happens most likely you'll need to rebuild the engine or simply replace it.

not driving in the rain would be safest thing when having a CAI if you happen to go fast where there is a huge puddle that might do it. I don't want to take a chance that is why I am taking the mid-pipe way.

I'm gonna have to see if they have it in blue. Once you put it on, get some pics up, as I'll jump right on it if it works for you!

What I dont like about the franken mid-pipe it that it doesnt look like it has a taper to it, it doesnt look like it will act like a velocity stack. Its just a straight pipe, is that correct?
but if the gains are there maybe we can get him to start a group deal. How much did your friend pay for it?

i was tossing the idea around my head of doing a custom cai sorta like the injen on the 4th gens and have the filter sit below the radiator and above that black plastic shield so it wont suck up water
plus if you have that "midpipe setup" wouldnt the filter suck up warmer air since its near the engine?
Eric: I'm not taking a chance with the CAI after I spent all this money on my car and I just got the flywheel and clutch. I guess the Frankencar will act like a straight pipe since it removes that resonator.
Joe: John (with the Rosewood 4th gen) and I went for a drive the other night for like an hour, got out of the car and touched the mid-pipe and it was not hot at all, I mean compared to the whole engine it seemed really cool where you can keep your hand on it and not be afraid of getting burned. I think the material Frankencar uses is real good.
Kevin: I can't wait myself

But if you're goin through a puddle forget it.
no not really, unless your driving through a 10" or deeper puddle I doubt you will have any problem. Plus you can get a AEM by-pass valve, or you could just add a breather at the top of the CAI by the MAF and it will do almost the same thing.
If you dont belive me take a long straw and put a hole in the top of it and try to suck up water. the only diff. between that and the by-pass valve is that the AEM doesnt stay open the whole time but the breather will, but you could make a cap for it and only take the cap off when it was raining.
I know alot of people with CAI's and the only time one person hydro locked was when he was driving on the crappy street in the rain with no wheel well liner and he dipped into a pot hole, plus the filter on that car was real low. But if you are worried by all means get the Mid-pipe guys I just wanted to clear up that it is not as big a risk as you think, plus if you have full coverage I know a few people have had hydro-locking covered.
When I get a CAI I plan on mounting it as low as possible and makin' a custom box around it to try and get a ram air effect
, so I'm quite worried about hydro-locking. around how much would a bypass valve run???

FYI, WSP sells the mid-pipe only if you want, and no need to plug up the hole.

I considered the WSP but I think the pipe is like curved or has a bend in it, so if I was to use the upper parts of their CAI then my stillen bracket for my pop-charge wouldn't be useful, now the Frankencar is a straight pipe with no bends in it and I should be able to use my Stillen bracket when installing this mid-pipe.
