Raced and beat Altima 3.5SE

98 Maxima SE auto with PR-CAI, Budget Y, OBX cat-back, 1/8 tank
vs.
Stock 2k2 Altima 3.5SE auto with 2 passengers

We raced several times, a few times from a roll and a few times from a light. Everytime I pulled on him and the most I beat him by was 1.5 full car lengths doing ~100. Even when we raced from a dead stop, I pulled on him slowly the entire time.

Shocked the sh.it out of the kid and his 2 friends in the car!! I know if he was 5 speed, or even with no passengers he would have walked me, but that wasn't the case.

1 point for the 4th Gens!

Street racing with a guy who has two kids in the car?

It one thing that you are doing that, it's another to have kids involved - and if they never learn that it's wrong, they are going to wind up doing the same things.

It's all fun until someone makes a mistake, something goes wrong, and someone gets hurt.

What are you talking about??? It was 3 high school aged kids. I never said a father and his two kids.

Haha you said it kinda wrong you said you street raced a guy with two kids. But good kill tho. Im really surprised. Those mods you have really gained a modest amount of horsepower.

Good but now try him without two "kids" in the car and see how you do.

man stop with the "kid" issue
he already cleared it up!!!

good kill...although i would think a newer gen alty would murder you

if you can take an alty, then you should be able to take an auto vq35 max as well...

Good win from a very nice 4th gen car. I am guessing you had the big EVO's on while you were racing?

I personally believe there is nothing wrong with street racing as long as you use your head. NEVER street race when other traffic is around, and never street race around corners. The only places I race are at tollway frontage roads that are flat and have no side streets, or if someone wants to play on the highway I'll do a short run. I also won't try to top my car out, usual runs from a light will last to 60 (or about 10mph over the posted speed limit, again on the tollway frontage roads where there is no traffic) or up to 80-90 on the highway, if I am a couple of cars ahead or a couple of cars behind in either situation I will usually shut it down before then.

I didn't think that a 4th gen would beat an Altima with same transmissions, but I also didn't think that a 4th gen would beat a GS-T with similar transmissions. Good race!

Thats a believable kill since the Alty weighs 3200~ pounds or so, your at 3000 give or take a few, he had 2 passengers, at least 250lbs more weight...

Also, Motor trend tested the alty 4-speed auto with times of 7.2 secs to 60, so believeable?...very...good kill!

Yes I had my Evo's on. Hardly anyone was around while we were racing, and no one was in front of us for a long distance. I'm usually hesitant to race, but the situation was safe enough for me to do it.

I figured that, and most on this board use their head, like when Brian and Neal did some runs on an empty highway, but their will always be those who will jump on you for street racing regardless of the situation.

I'm a bit skeptical but I'll give it to ya. My friend has a 3.5 SE Altima and those things just haul. He kills me in my intake auto Maxima. We raced a G35 coupe and had it by 1/2 a car (in the alty) until 55ish (where the G35 pulled away) although I don't think the guy totally launched off the line, definitely a spirited launch though. Anyway those altys are quick nice kill

Yeah G35 are great. Even with its extra power an Alty (5sp) would stay with one and most likely beat one thanks to its reduced weight..

the new altima is quick, but if not mistaken the auto runs low 15's which is very possible for an auto 4th gen with bolt ons to do.
there is a time and place for street racing. i.e. (very little traffic, no people around, and spectators in a safe place, and no trees etc) personally i race on an abandoned airplane strip and when idiots come to the light and want to run in unsafe conditions, i rev the VQ up, and when the light turns watch them waste gas and tires while i slowly accelerate.

If this race was believable, which I feel is, knowing that the Altima was auto and stock and the Maxima also auto but modded with CAI/Y/Cat-back, it must also be believable for this to occur (this was my post in the general maxima forum):

"I was sitting at a stoplight and a g35 4door 6speed crept up next to me.

From as far as I could tell, he was stock. I have a 4th gen 5speed with CAI and Y-pipe.

Light turned green and we both gunned it. 0-60 he had a nose on me.
After that.. he slowly walked away until my nose was on his rear. There was some traffic on my lane so I had to shut it off.

Overall, this was within expecation, knowing that the G35's a little faster (.2 to.3 sec.) in the 1/4 mile. "
