A/C not coming on when button depressed

We had a warm day here in Ga this weekend got up to mid 60's and I was headed to a wedding in a wool suit so I wanted some A/C but even though the button was depressed no cold air...well I thought to myself surely it hasnt leaked the freon out. Well I started listening and when I press the button the Compressor isnt kicking in. I even stopped had a friend press the button with my head under the hood and nothing. Any idea??

Oh and I'm a 99 if that helps for any reason.

If the AC button has a noticable effect of the engine idle/sound... then you probably lost sufficient refrigerant... If you don't hear the AC compressor clutch kick in, check your fuse... if you replace it and it blows again... your compressor is probably bad (pulling too much current).

you might also want to check to see if you have a refrigerant leak. In most newer a/c sys, there is a safety switch that will keep the compressor from kicking on if the refrigerant level is too low. Have someone check your levels and if it is low, check for leaks. Make sure that the caps for your refrigerant ports are in place. the valves tend to leak over time. Get back to me if you are still having trouble.

A little off topic, yet relates.

When I press the off button on my Climate Control, the air goes off, but not all the way off. When using the heat, after I push the off button, it is still exerting hot air. Its really annoying. Any ideas?

If you have the digital climate control then I don't know if this applies but, with me if I do not press the air circulation(?) button that is on the left side in to only circulate the air inside the cabin(not letting outside air in like with a vent) then heat or cold air will still "leak" in.
