Help with air filter/intake installation on 97SE
I plan on installing a 3" adapter from lightningmotorsports.com and a K&N cone filter. My car is a 97 SE. My question is what is safe to remove and what is not? I am going to take out the box top and bottom halves. That will leave a second box under the battery tray and the duct from the grille into the box hanging there. I want to take those out too(?) which poses my biggest problem: there is a sensor in the lower duct that must be important. Has anyone done this mod that could help? I've read the Stillen directions, but they seem to leave a lot of the info out. The way I see it, I take everything out so that from the engine it would be mass air sensor -> adapter -> filter. And I would plug whatever that sensor is into a hole that I will fabricate in the filter/adapter housing.
Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

dont touch the MAF
if your just throwin a cylindrical/cone filter on you dont have to touch any electronics... just pull the stock box out - that takes a while .... then add your attachment and your filter and your ready to roll - thats all i had to do with my stillen pop charger ... dont disengage your Mass Air Flow sensor !!!!!!
i did

Re: the 3
They have the dimensions at http://www.lightningmotorsports.com I am HOPING it is as they say. I bought the adapter there and the cone from Jeg's. Search on this part number: 599-RU-3130
Read the directions on how to install a CAI on http://www.maximadriver.com
There are three sensors
The MAF is the sensor that is bolted to the stock air box.
There is a boost sensor that is just connected to the stock assembly, just zip tie that to the side.
And there is another sensor (I think its the idle air temperature sensor...I may be wrong) I'm not sure if you have to move that. With the Place Racing CAI there is a hole in one of the pipes to put the sensor, so with other intakes I'm not sure.
The sensor in the lower duct, if it reads boost sensor on it then just zip tie it to the side...if you notice it's not really inline with the air flow, so just tie it to the side.
