There was a thread a while back about Alpine Indutries fitting a Maxima with a supercharger or turbo. I received a phone call from the owner to see if I can come down and let them take a look at the Max. He thinks he has a mild turbo kit(approx-50-90hp) that will fit. He also said that he thinks the Camry kit(TRD SUPERCHARGER) will fit but might need a different Exh. manifold. Either way , I am going to end up with one or the other. The prices of their kits start @ $1100.00 and up to $2700.00. I will post more info this weekend and maybe some pics of the shop and products. Any help with do's and do not's with forced induction, or preference on spec's please post and I'll take all of our ?'s to Alpine and see what they say. Thank you.

 

Ah how is the TRD Camry unit going to work w/ a diff exh manifold? Each item is located on diff ends of the heads. You would need to totally refab the in. flanges on the TRD unit to work. That is if the belts even come close to lining up that is.

 

I'll try to answer all questions on Sat. Night when I've talked to Alpine. If you have techy ?'s, they won't be replied to untill I have ALL INFO.

 

That's probably why they want to look at his car, so they can figure these things out... Good prices if they do come through, I wish I lived closer to them... :P

If they come out with a turbo kit with about 50-90 hp, and its only 1100-2700 dollars that would be awsome! yes the gains would only be the same as a superC...but at a much better price

I met up with John @ Alpine Industries on Saturday morning. I waited about thirty minutes while he was dyno'ing a IS300. He looked @ my car for about 1/2 hr and said he has an idea that they(Alpine Ind.) used on the offroad Pathfinders and Hardbodies. The had the VG motors and ran a small single turbo w/ air-to-water aquaintercooler. He has about a month of schitt he has to do but he's taking my car back @ the end of March or begining of April. He also does ECU tuning @ install. From what I got out of him, small turbo-low boost- PROPER tuning and reliability. I did get a couple of pics of the shop and the IS300 he was dynoing. He said it will only take a few months for mass production once a kit is in place. All kits will be intercooled(either air-air or air to water) and warranty. Somebody wants to host my pics, let me know. All crazy a$$ techy ?'s will not be answered do to the fact that I am NOT a mechanic, nor do I wish to be. Keep it simple!

 

When you say small boost, is that about the power of a superC or less ?

 

APPROX.6-9 PSI

 

Wow. Fromt he numbers that the other turbo kits are running, 6-9 PSI wouldn't be considered small boost. Yes, low in PSI, but I would think thaty they would turn out more hp#'s that 50-90

What manufactorer is he going to use for the blower? Eaton? Will it be a Roots or Centrifugel type blower? If Roots, how will he make it fit? (According to Dave B., theres not much room for a roots type). And no BOV for roots types I'm assuming?

This turbo setup doesn't sound like it's for the high hp guys, but not everyone wants/knows how to deal with high hp applications.

From what I got out of him, it will be a Mitsubishi turbo. Small single-low boost. His claim is the ECU tuning. He has a Focus with a roots style and is only running 5psi and he has added 75hp through the whole powerband and he even let me drive it. If he can do to our max what he did with this Focus(I.E. Small boost-Proper tuning) then I will be happy and its warranteed. I personally don't think there are too many people out there with more knowledge then John @ Alpine. He also said if he can't do it safe and reliable then he won't do it. So I hope he can do it because he won't market a peice of schitt. The IS300 he was dynoing had a single t3/04 and was putting over 300 hp to the rear wheels-no other mods-Thats what the Max needs

 

Is he aware that no one has been able to crack the code on the 97-99 ECU? If he can do this at the prices you mentioned I would definatly be interested.
