What's up fellas,
I'm up for my 60K tune-up and am looking for some feedback. I've had my 97 SE 5spd for about two months. I'm about to switch to NGK Platinum Plugs, and change over to synthetic oil.

Any recommendations on synthetic oils and any other maintenance and performance changes that I should be making as part of my 60K tuneup? I remember one you guys giving great feedback on what to do but I can't find the thread. Thanks in advance!

There is some disagreement about what you should do at 60K. I prefer to do exactly what the book calls for. Other owners like to add services which Nissan does not require at 60K, such as replacing
- fuel filter
- transmission fluid
- Positive Crankcase Ventilation valve
- accessory drive belts
- brake fluid
- clutch fluid

Have a look at http://integra.vtec.net/geeser/megamax/60k_service.html

Some Nissan owners are ardent advocates of synthetic engine oil. I use ordinary oil, but believe in frequent oil and filter changes. I can see some value in synthetic oil if the car is driven in extreme climates. However, synthetic oil accumulates contaminants just as quickly as standard oil. IMHO those owners who justify 20K oil change intervals on the basis of the "superiority" of synthetic oil are making a big mistake.

Mobil 1 is what most of us use...5-30. NGK platinum plugs will give another 60,000 miles so they are worth the money.
Here is a link to my site that will tell you what's involved for a 60,000 mile tune-up.

You bought your Maxima used. Did it come with an Owner's Manual? If not, read on...

The Nissan owner’s manual has valuable model-specific details on the day-to-day use and care of your car, as well as recommended maintenance intervals. If you’ve lost or misplaced your manual, just call 1-800-247-5321 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. eastern time, Monday through Friday. There is no charge for 1999, 1998 or 1997 manuals, however, there is a $12.00 charge for owners manuals prior to the 1997 models.

Of course it's a great link. I'd say your site is one of the top three best sites about the maxima.

Thanks for the feedback!

What's up fellas,
Thanks for the feedback. And the last time this question got asked, that link was the one lasted. Who's website is that? Is it Jeff's or Bryan's. Whoever's it is, it's lovely

Take care.

Anybody else got any feedback on synthetic oil. Daniel, that's actually the first time that I've heard somebody not promote synthetic.

It's Jeff's site. I wish I could take the credit for it, but it's not mine. I've definately learned a lot from his site and other sites like Cheston's http://www.maximadriver.com

Yeah Cheston gives good info too, but he e-mailed the yahoo maxima club, saying that his site was gonna be down for a little bit. Jeff's site gives me more then enough info and I'm gonna call next week and get me a owner's manual. My 97 didn't have one when I bought it.

Later...
