NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dang dang dang dang!!! That is one heck of a job to do! I took out the cross member and had two jacks under the engine and the jackstands on the frame rails, but was still nervous that engine would fall on me.

Well, I spent $135 for nothing!!!!! The Cattman Y pipe still hits the sway bar under moderate to heavy accelleration. This is not the solution.

On the upside, the car is a little smoother and with my friend in the car, I managed to do a nice burnout from a dead stop without any break torquing on dry pavement, so there must be a little less give as I was never able to do that before with my wider Dunlops.
I powered through 2nd and that pipe vibrated on the sway bar all the way up. I guess it's back to the duck tape and aluminum foil to suppress the noise. I guess it's the price you pay for performance.

Is this the Cattman Stainless Y or the Jet-Hot Coated Y?

Bryan,

I have the same problem with my '93 SE, remember? I'm going to be ordering an aluminized WSP y-pipe within the next few weeks. The Cattman y-pipe still bangs the sway bar even though I replaced my motor mounts. Also, the front of the Cattman pipe is now completely crushed from hitting the ground and I only have Eibach springs which only lower the car 1.2". Replacing your motor mounts was NOT a waste of money unless they had already been replaced before. My engine feels much tighter since replacing the mounts and the old ones had damage that I couldn't see until I got them out. Let me know if you replace your Cattman y-pipe. I want to know if the WSP provides more ground clearance and clears the sway bar!

later,
Jeremy

Sure I remember you. I can't believe your pipe has been hitting the ground like that. Yours must hang down further.

Unfortunately, Kaleb has the WSP Y pipe and his hits his sway bar too. What are we going to do?

Anyway, about the mounts, yes, my car does feel tighter and smoother now with the newer ones.

several notes worth mentioning...
On the stock Y pipe, the thing actually DOES rub on the sway bar.. but the flex section on the Y is right above the bar.. so that's the part that rubs on the sway bar and you can't hear it.. there is less clearance on the OEM bar than any other Y out there, cattman, stillen, or WSP.

I just put a NEW prototype WSP Y pipe on my car friday.. the previous version had only about 5/8" clearance on the sway bar...
the new one I put on friday has over 1.5" yes.. one and a half inches of clearance.
there is absolutely no way this thing will hit the sway bar now, even with worn engine mounts and aftermarket sway bars.
I'll take pics this weekend if I can get my hands on dad's digicam.

it hangs down just a tiny bit past the crossmember on the very front edge, so if you hit the pipe, you'll be hitting the crossmember too. I don't know how you managed to crush your cattman pipe, (nor do I know where the cattman pipe fits in relation to the crosmember) but you've got to be doing something weird.. dont' drive up so close on parking blocks for one!!

Bryan - that really sucks! I may end up putting my stock y-pipe back on if I can't get this issue resolved. Good job on the motor mounts dude. It was a ***** huh!?! I switched out both mounts in about two hours but it was not easy. The rear mounts was difficult but this task paled in comparison to replacing my front and rear exhaust studs by myself.

Matt - My Cattman pipe hangs way below the crossmember and it's the first thing to hit the pavement when I bottom out. I'll take some pictures of the damage when I get a digital camera. The car has the Tokico/Eibach setup with ZR tires so it sits pretty low but not nearly as low as some of the other Maximas I've seen in here. I don't drive up onto curbs and I always go through dips at an angle to prevent the y-pipe from hitting but obviously it hasn't done any good. How can I get one of these "prototype" y-pipes from WSP? Some pictures would be great.

Actually the pipe we put on Matt's car is no prototype pipe, its a real one. We just decided to tuck them in a bit tighter. I was surprised to see how much clearance we ended up with. I'll talk with Kaleb, I am sure we can adjust his as well.

We have a bunch of pipes in production right now (25), in fact we are ordering enough flanges tomorrow for another 50 pipes of various generations and steel. If you hit bottom with one of ours the least of your problems will be the pipe.

We posted a while back that when Dan had the same bent Cattman pipe problem "one hung low" with his car (which inspired us to start WarpSpeed Performance, good can happen from bad) Dan's back three sparkplugs were almost completely burnt off because the crushed front pipe caused the rear to run lean and burnt off the tips of the 3 spark plugs. According to Nissan service anyway.

So....if you have a bad dent get it off your car. The pipe on Dan's car had a dent which constricted it by at least 1/3 of the diameter of the pipe. If yours is less I would not sweat it too bad, you might want to give Brian a jingle though.

We have pictures on our website... http://www.warpspeedperformance.com

Actually, the front part of my Cattman pipe is crushed over 1/2 of the diameter of the tubing but it's only been that way for less than a month or so. I'm glad to hear that the "updated" WSP y-pipe allows for more sway bar clearance. That clunking noise is getting pretty irritating! I'm going to be ordering one of these from you within the next few weeks. Thanks for the info.

check your reart three plugs

Jeremy:
check your rear three spark plugs and make sure they look good, if you see any damage remove the Y pipe and beat out the dent somewhat with a steel rod from the top inside, round the end first and don't beat real hard, if you have a torch heat it up a bit as that makes it easier.
