Build up a 5-spd tranny...?
My tranny died at 162,000 miles last summer, just before I had a chance to install my NOS kit. I'd like to have the tranny repaired so I can drive it another 162,000 miles. I also want to resume *occasional* trips to the local drag strip for Test & Tune this spring.
Should I:
1- Have my 162K mile tranny rebuilt?
2- Replace the old tranny with a new or used one?
Are there parts available to "build up" my tranny so it'll perform reliably under high-performance conditions, or is OEM my only practical option? Any other practical options I have overlooked? I appreciate your input.
Thanks for your help... Bullseye

You could call up Courtesy Nissan and ask for a price quote on both a Non-Limited Slip 5-spd like the original one in your car and a Limited Slip version if you want better performance during turns and slippery conditions. Also, if you are going for the LSD 5-spd, ask the sales tech to see if you need to replace your drive axles also.
For example, I have a 2000 Maxima SE 5-spd with the non-limited slip 5-spd and I wanted to upgrade to the 2001 AE 5-spd Limited Slip and Courtesy Nissan quoted me $1920 + shipping. Maybe yours could be a bit cheaper. And from what I found out, a rebuilt tranny costs somewhere between $800-$3000 anyways depending on extent of damage. Good luck.
