'99 Maxima ES - fact or fiction??

Just curious if anyone has ever heard of an "ES" model. I know, I know, the seller ( a used dealership) is merely dyslexic and it's really an SE, but, they ADAMANTLY insist their car is an ES. They claim it is a "special" model. I haven't had a chance to go over and visually see the car, but, they are also advertising it with a sunroof and then over the phone say that it doesn't have one. Should their ad writer cut back on his prescription drugs or does this model actually exist? I've never heard of it before.

I believe what you are talking about is a '99 se limited, it was only made in '99 and has a couple of things others don't. Good find, but be careful of the dealer, sounds like they aren't all there

No, it's not that. I heard about an ES version. No leather seats and no sunroof. Does the ES version really exist? I never saw one...

Actually, I am located in Canada and the car is located at a dealership here. I was not aware that Canada had a special model of Maxima that wasn't available in the US. What are the special features that would make it an ES? Where did it sit pricing wise in the lineup?

There is a 1999 ES model in Canada. It is similar to the SE without the sunroof, leather and spoiler. I believe that it is similar to the SE L in the US.

Yes, the '99 is a 5 spd. The fellow said it didn't have the roof or leather, but, I didn't think to ask whether it had a spoiler. Why would Nissan offer essentially an SE without the rear spoiler and call it a different model? I think on the SE, that the leather and roof were options, correct? This VLSD...I'm assuming that refers to ltd. slip front differential? I believe my '98 SE 5 spd. has that. When there is snow on the ground here and I accelerate quickly, both my front wheels will spin

This '99 ES is a Cdn. car. But, we have the SE model in Canada too. My '98 SE 5 spd. is completely loaded, but, I've also seen much more stripped down SE's as well. It just seems to me that this "ES" model is a somewhat stripped down SE, so I don't know why Nissan had a separate model for it. I mean, how would you tell the difference between someone, in Canada, that had a '99 SE without roof and leather and a '99 ES? Just the fact that the ES is missing the rear spoiler? And since my '98 SE has the ltd. slip diff., the fact that the ES may have it wouldn't make it unique to the ES model.

In 99, all Cdn Maxima SEs had leather, Sunroof and Spoiler. They had introduced the ES model sometime in 99 that was approx 6 or 7 thousand $ less than the SE model. It had the Alloy 16" wheels to make it look like an SE, but it didn't have the sunroof / Leather / spoiler as part of the package. I'm not sure if it had the ACC and heated mirrors.

There are some members on the Canada forum that have the ES model

I believe the ES has the winter package (heated mirror's and such).

well here's some proof that it exists...can't believe you guys didn't know....you guys disappoint me

i have a 99 ES 5spd
it has VLSD, heated seats, heated mirrors, 5-spoke SE rims, full sized spare, climate control and all that garbage, no bose, no spoiler, no sunroof, no leather, no passenger power seat. every other attribute is the same as the SE-L.

Yes, in Canada there is both a 99 SE and 99 ES........ i work for a car leasing remarketing company and we sell a lot of SE & ES versions..... i can't recall the exact differences right now, but I'll try to remember for tomorrow when I go in to find out.

ES is NOT a Canadian SE.

The ES was a 99 only model in Canada that had the appearance
of an SE (white gauges, 5-spoke rims), but it doesn't have ALL
the goodies (like spoiler, perhaps suspension).

the thing is that the ES was about $6000Cdn cheaper than the SE at the time. that would be able to easily provide custom leather, spoiler of choice, nice sound system (not b/s bose), and aftermarket suspension. all this at the same cost of a stock SE.
so if you were to spend your money wisely, it would have more than enough goodies

Thank you 99 Max ES. Thus it appears, the Cdn. only, '99 ES model, is a typical SE model less the following:
1. trunk spoiler
2. power glass sunroof
3. power passenger seat
4. leather interior
5. Bose stereo
6. front seat side air bags
