what I really love about Nissan....
I have the Gold Key Warranty on both cars. And they have rental coverage. I have been denied on every single request for a car. I just got turned down again and put in an angry call to the finance manager that sold me the warranties. (they love this btw
What service managers tell me (each has his own theory):
1. car must be in overnight (so you cant get it til day #2 and thats if they keep it another night, totalling 3 days)
2. repair must have 4 hours of labor, and you cant get the car until its diag-ed, so theres 2 hours, but not part of the 4, that makes 6.
3. Another 4 hour theory but theres a deductable of $50.
4. You can never get a rental without diagnostic first
5. no less than 3 other BS lines I cant remember but are roughly variations of the top 4
what the finance manager told me.
1. if the car is dangerous to drive, you get the rental right away, regardless of repair time.
2. The repair time is 2 hours, and you get the rental right after diag.
3. never a deductable.
Hmmmmmm, time to call Nissan. Bah!!! I hate this crap. This is obviously the dealer not wanting to eat the rental car because they screw up and take too long fixing things.

Nissan's game is so inconsistent (long rant!)
I have a '98 which blew its parking lamps when it was about 6 months old. After taking the car back once, leaving the dealership and having them blow immediately, I drove back and told them I wanted a rental car the next day. They said no problem. I do not have any extended warranties but it was the dealer that sold me the car. I figured, what's it to them? It's a Nissan/Infiniti dealer, they'll just give me one of those crappy I30 loaners that they have sitting around. What was weird was the next day, a woman showed up with a new Toyota Camry and I actually had to sign a contract just like with any rental car--only the bill was being sent to the Nissan dealer. The loaner was just like a body shop type loaner. Yes I sometimes have a mean streak--I returned the car with 8 miles more on the odometer, implying I really didn't need a rental and they could have shuttled me. I just wanted them to incur the expense, which showed as over $70 per day. So when you legitimately have some sort of extended warranty to me that dealership is just showing you a discourtesy by being not willing to offer you one and even explaining the many scenarios in which you're not entitled to one.
I think many people will be first time/last time Nissan owners. It's such a joke that they calculate 46% depreciation in 3 years--that's got to be the steepest in the car industry--check it out:

That's why if you don't buy your Nissan below invoice you really get raked. And that's how they make their profits, by artificially jacking the list price because many shoppers feel "guilty" about going near invoice price, let alone below. Glad my friend went under invoice at the end of last year. I think he got 5.9% too.

They are very correct, my dealer does the same thing....or at least use too. Till I got to know them really well now they give me a car only if I have hte warranty. The problem is, nissan won't pay for the car unless its more than 1 day fix.

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, WRONG!!!
as per the Nissan Gold Warranty...
repair time
0.1-8.0 hours - 2 days allowed
8.1-16 hours - 3 days
16.1-24.0 - 4 days.
and thats the cheaper warranty on the max, the PF has a 5 day coverage.
See... the dealer makes you *think* you have to be overnight. not true.... dammit... Nissan was closed today.. tomorrow they get an earful, and my service manager is going to get some on-the-job-training with my contract in hand...

All I can say is shop around for a dealer who's a bit better.. mine gives me a rental for the major services (not even overnight) b/c they're affiliated with AutoNation. AutoNation owns a rental company, so they just send me next door and I'm on my way in a Ford POS.
Maybe you need to try this approach. My ex-girlfriend bought a brand new '98 GXE and after driving for two days we noticed a problem. The windshield had a sort of wave to it so the view was distorted. We brought it back and she told the salesman she wanted his car (a '98 SE fully loaded) to drive around while it took a couple of days to replace the windshield. I laughed thinking she was crazy and he would say yeah right, but to my surprise he didn't and she got his car. Maybe he was just trying to get her right under my nose or maybe he was just a nice guy and a great salesman, but I'll never know. In any event, that was a pretty good deal for her.
