Any one used Kumho Ecsta HP4 716's?

I need ALL SEASON tires for my 15" wheels, and am considering the Kumho HP4 716's (All season grand touring 205/65-15)

Reading the reviews on tirerack I'm lead to believe they are realtively quiet (major concern to me) and have good wet/dry/snow traction.

My concern is tread wear, some ppl here have indicated poor tread wear on the 712's.

I'd like to hear what the 716 users have to say.

The 716 is a great tire for the money. I recommended them to my mom when she was replacing her stock 205/65-15 tires for her 2k1 Camry, although her main concern was price, not performance. She got them back in Dec. for either $36 or $39 a tire(can't remember) from tirerack and she reports good dry and wet traction with little or no noise and treadwear looks good so far, much better than her stock POS tires were. I wouldn't know about snow traction though being in Florida. Also, I got the 712 tires(225/55-16) for my car in Jan. and they have been great so far.

Hope this helps.

She's had them for about 4650 miles since they were put on in Dec. 2002. Probably too soon to tell how the treadwear will be, but it looks good so far.

I just took her car out for a drive and couldn't hear any noise while highway driving up to 85mph or so. Then I took it through some corners and even taking them somewhat aggressive there was no squeals. Under extreme hard cornering they squeal, but so do my 712's. They don't stick as good as my 712's through the turns, but they do very well for an all-season touring tire.

I have those on my 97 Toyota Avalon and their great in dry weather but i found out the lower speed rated tires are aka my old good year wing foots were a lot better in the snow. In the rain i haven't noticed a difference but the snow i have. And my car was very stable in the snow I have FWD,ABS, and Traction Control and if u make any sudden turns or braking they tend to skid out. Which didn't happen on the old ones. But in dry surfaces they are excellent they signifigantly increased the handling of my car and now it is able to handle high speeds. I was easily able to handle 125mph in those. I like them they are a low cost alternative and the skidding isn't that bad but I would've liked better snow traction due to the fact I live in CHicago. Can't say anything about tread wear since their 3 months old and only have 2000mi.

Overall I'd still get them since I'm now able to enjoy my cars handling

you get what you pay for

my old michelliens were due for upgrade , so i went the cheap way and got some 716's from Tirerack. two weeks later did 3 complete 360
spin outs on the expressway , ended up on the median , resulting in 8K in repairs.
to be honest - don't be cheap on the tires, people invest money into intakes /mufflers and bunch of other useless bs, but get stingy on tires.
My old Michellins had better traction than brand new 716's.

Ouch. Sorry to hear about that Nick.

How fast were you driving, were you trying to get off on an exit, or was it just a curve on the freeway?

try to move your steering wheel just a bit at 130mph

that's what i did , it was snowing and road conditions vere bad
I was doing 60 mph , it was late night and i thought that i saw huge pothole in the road (having Sprints makes you concentrate on evading potholes and not fully concentrate on driving)
thus - i moved the wheel to the right , just a bit - resulting in complete loss of control. i did three 360 spin outs and hit the median with rear end first and front next .Damage to the car was extensive , front right quaterpanel smashed, front control arm bent plus many other things with the price tag for insurance of 8k, plus another 1k for rental car.
I'm not blaiming tires , but i'm confident if i had my old michellins i would've be able to regain control of the vehicle.

Don't be cheap on tires !!!!!

I'm not sure how much these cost in your size in the US but I strongly recommend the Nokian NRW tires (http://www.nokiantires.com/html/NRW.html#specs)

They are by FAR the BEST all-around tires I have ever driven on.
I use them in the winter due to their snowflake rating.
For a few months, I kept hearing from friends how awesome these tires were and I was very skeptical. I was thinking to myself, how can one single tire have so much? Awesome dry traction for an all-season, awesome wet traction, great snow traction, low noise AND low tread wear???? I was like, that's just impossible! Anyway, it finally started snowing up here in Canada and I was in a bind to get some tires so I finally gave up and bought the NRW. Holy crap were all my friends right about this tire. Dry traction wise, they were 80% as good as my summer RE730 which are summer only tires, wet wise they were just as good and snow wise, I managed to get up a 10% incline with 4 people in the car in 6 inches of snow (up a driveway).
They're not the easiest to find (tirerack doesn't sell them) but boy are they worth it if you can find them. Again, I don't know how much your size goes for (plus the fact that I'm in Canada so I don't know how much they are in the US) but they are SO WORTH IT!
I can't stress enough how good of an all-season tire these are.
I was literally flabbergasted at how a tire can be good in dry, wet and snow and low noise and good tread wear all in one tire. The physics don't add up but it's true.
