The Max is going in for brakes tommorow...

While its in the shop my dad mentioned to me that I should just get the shocks and struts done cause there pretty bad. I told him tho that I wouldn't want the products they have to offer I want higher performance shocks and springs. What price range am I looking at for a higher performance lowering suspension for my 89 SE? and what type of setup could I run? I cant search for this info

Tokico shocks are $300-350 for all 4. Performance springs run anywhere from $130-250. Expect 2-3 hours to install everything at a mechanic's shop. My setup cost about $600 installed.

that's another ripoff.. I custom built a big brake kit for front and rear, and bought new axles for $800.

talk about being bent over without lube.

oh and btw, go to either:

www.tirerack.com
or
www.shox.com

Order Kyb gr-2 front and rear struts and eibach springs. I feel thats the cheapest "quality" setup. and your dad wont kick your nad$...just delay going to the shop a little longer till they come in if you can.

Thats insane, and you paid a 1g just because Jeff (maximus75) did it. Especially doing all that work he should of hooked you up. One reason I'll never go there, he's a rip.

Crazy4Maxima was telling me that Jeff told him that tokico's were no good and wanted to sell him the KYB Gr-2's at $100 a corner when I could get them for $200.00 shipped from www.foreignautoparts.cc Once again Crazy4Maxima paid this much because Jeff gives no breaks.

Oh yeah not to mention he didn't even bleed his brakes with that price and Crazy4Maxima always i.m. me telling that he still has to bleed the brakes.

there's a sucker born every minute.

he had the option of having the work done by him or taking it somewhere else, so he can't say anything about "having" to pay high prices. he offered a service at a given price and it was accepted.

$1K....that is a major rip off, you've been schplucked in your **** area!!!

I spent about $150 on parts and labor was about 6 hours for everything...including jacking up the car, draining the trans, eating lunch...f-ing with the axle nuts, putting everything on...then re-filling the trans, and lowering the car..

woah fellas....

the suspension i got on my own and at a good price..
about 500 bucks or so..

the strut boot covers 12-20 a peice. times 4
then i got the front rotors at about 40 a pirce so that is 80
the blendix IQ for another 60 for the set

rear shoes and my drums resurfaced 30 bucks for the resurfaced and then another about 20-30 bucks for the rear shoes.

then the front right axle was bad so i had it replaced also.

then the fun job of installing all this goodies and jeff hooked me up with a very fair and good price. i say jeff lost money in my installation.

And Jeff is a really good guy in my book.. and hooked me up with deals and almost didnt have any money to install the mods.. i maxed my credit card b.c it was a two day proceess... the suspension job alone and the brakes took him one complete day from 11:30 til 5:30 with getting all the parts i needed in one day the same day...
so in that being said
i never had any problems with jeff.. and i did alot of work to my max.. heck axle, brakes, rotors, suspension being installed, getting all the parts i needed the same day, and the amount of time he took was well worth to make my 3rd gen better than when i had it.

if anything jeff saved me money. but for the money i spent it was about 850 bucks.. for everything.. so i figured in gas food and other expenses and almost be about 900 almost 1 g..

no one mentioned Jeff in any of the posts, I've heard nothing but good things about him and his shop. All I'm saying is that, $1000 for brakes and even both axles is way too much money...consider this, Pep Boys charges $120 for front brakes, $120 for backs, and axles cost $90 a piece, the labor is say $200 on axles, your at $620, and these are worst case numbers, so it should be less, One can often find these "deals" for $89.95 for brakes or something, even with resurfacing, should only be about $10/rotor...in other words, you still got RIPPED!
