What is ASC? (93 GXE)

Its a 93 GXE, there is a button directly under the moonroof controls that says ASC, (or ACS..I forgot) what's it for?

(When you press the button a red light inside the button comes on.)

it's ASC which is an aftermarket sunroof company (your sunroof isn't stock)

I think it usually will close the sunroof when you lock the doors unless you press that button (color will change from green to red), try it out and see

they come factory with power everything (windows, locks, steering), but the sunroof- as well as leather- was an option.. many cars had both installed with aftermarket equipment, even at the dealer.

a dealer could pay an aftermarket place $500 to install a sunroof and charge the buyer as a $1200 option on the car. same with leather. and the buyer thinks it was on there form the factory. nice how that works, eh?

I've got an '89 that has an ASC moonroof. It in fact was dealer added (actually installed by an ASC certified installer nearby) and of course marked up to me (the original owner).

Because most GXE's at the time had the moonroof option from Nissan bundled with the Leather Pkg, people like me would be outta luck. I wanted a car with a cloth interior and with a moonroof. The Nissan dealer I bought from just happened to have a GXE cloth with no factory options, but decked out with a moonroof, foglites, spoiler, floormats, etc.

My ASC moonroof still works flawlessly after all these years.

The ASC button on my car does NOT light up, but when pressed, it makes the sunroof close automatically when the ignition is turned off. This way it can never be left open inadvertently and let rain in. Mine also has an express open and close along with venting. At that time, most moonroofs from the factory did not have the express features.

i'm definitely with crazy4maxima here...i wanna see some pics of this ASC sunroof. i wanna know more too, just in case i wanna throw one into my '93 gxe. does it really cost around $500? how risky is it? how do i find the right place? would it be a good idea to find all the components in a junkyard? thanks, i appreciate it, because of course, i am still learning.
