Added Factory Spoiler-Trunk Won't Stay Up As Well

Max'ers:

The dealer put on a new spoiler for my 2K3. Before, the trunk was light to lift up (thin sheet metal) and stayed up easily.
Now, the trunk is harder to lift, and doesn't stay up as well.

Is there a different setting on the trunk's torsion bar counterweight to help lift the trunk? Is there a different torsion bar used on those trunks with spoilers?

Thanks

Vic

Yes When I had my 96 and put the OEM wing it can with new torsion bars. So to answer you question Yes there is torsion bars that need to be used.

There may be torsion bars, but think about it that spoiler is pretty heavy. I have one that came with my 2k and I notice it's heavier than a normal trunk lid. It really doesn't bother me at all though and as long as it opens when I unlock it from the inside its fine with me.

There was a funny moment though when a girl I used to date opened the lid, but not all the way (she was way short) and bending over looking for something in the trunk when it came down on her uppper back. I was rolling when she told me.

It doesn't bother me if the trunk pops open a little, mine used to do that but now it doesn't and i'm used to it.

Check to see if there's another perch to move the torsion bar onto to give you more lift.

dealer installed mine - now the trunk doesn't pop up like it used to. He told me that this was normal on all SE's, and from what I've found (I posted a thread about this a while back) the service manager was lying to me. SE's trunks with factory spoilers on them should pop. I just haven't cared enough about it to fix it.

By 'pop' do you mean totally open or just unlocked?

It unlocks now, but it used to be up a little...not totally open.

OK, now I don't feel so bad. Mine opens about an inch or two.

Yeah it was a helluva nice view from behind her. But when it happened I wasn't there to see it. I hit that many times though, MMMMMM memories. Makes me wanna make a call right now, lol.

As far as the trunk lid. Yes it will only pop open an inch or two, but will stay open. Totally normal.
