Everybody, check and replace your airfilters.

do not let it get to this point, as i have learned. I replaced this with a KN Drop in filter, and the throttle response was night and day

It looks like some1 finally tired to reach the manufacturers claim that the OEM air filter doesnt have to be changed until 100,000 miles. The stock nissan filters seem to be the oiled type (in now way am I saying that its better then K&N) and traps most of the dirt on the top of the filter, thats why it looks so bad.

i dont see how they can claim 100k miles on the filter. It seemed as if my car was suffocating. Slowly and slowly, my MPG was suffering. I finally checked it, and realized ive never changed the OEM filter.

Silly me.

I know, I know. Thats what they "claim" but ive had an intake since like 4000miles so my stock filter is still pretty clean so I never went long on mine. The engine does begin to feel as if its suffocating after a while though, those pics looks horrible man. Just get a K&N panel filter and do the GAB mod.

To the originator of this thread: did you find it difficult getting the K&N into the intake .. I found it to be so, and I wasn't sure if it was seated properly ..

If you are getting that much sand and dirt sucked into your airbox, I would be EXTREMELY careful about using a K&N or any other aftermarket air filter. It has been relatively well documented that oil tests on vehicles with aftermarket air filters show higher levels of silica (sand) in the oil. The only source for silica in the engine is through the intake. In other words, aftermarket air filters let small sand and dirt particles into the engine. If you don't believe me, feel free to research this one on your own . . . just look for the facts and not everyone's opinion.

I put a K&N air filter in my 2000 SE and I noticed the difference immedietly. It was a real pain to get in though. 2TIM:2-3

He's right about the K&N filter. I have heard some real horror stories on several car forums.

i totally agree with you on the difficulty seating the panel in the airbox. THe bottom part is seated properly but the top part bulges out a little bit. YOu just gotta squeeze it down, and its all good
