Aftermarket springs with stock struts??

In another thread about springs, someone mentioned how you can't use stock struts with aftermarket springs. Well, since my car is only three months old, I wanted to make use of my stock parts as much as possible, as I go through different stages of mods. Can someone tell me what the downfall of using stock struts with aftermarket springs would be?

That is total BS, Ive had stock struts on my MaxSpeed springs for over 18k miles.

I know others who have had over 30k miles on their stock struts, I recall Maximadave who put a good 30k+ on his stock struts.

Same here. I have had H&R springs since March '02 on stock struts and shocks and I have gone approx. 20,000 miles in that time, no problems. I know if I had KYB or Toks the ride might be even BETTER, but there is no real PROBLEM with my stock stuff, although I have heard H&R is a better match for stock struts/shocks than something stiffer like Eibach or Sprint might be... Just my 2cents. Good luck!

it's not like you can't use the stock struts/shocks with the aftermarket springs...it's just better to go with aftermarket shocks when you change the springs...rides better and handles better...but i'd just change them both at the same time since they're the same labor.

Yeah.. you definatly can use the stock struts, but don't expect them to last quite as long, especially if you are getting springs which lower the car a lot. It the spring rates are too high, the ride will most likely be somewhat bouncy due to the relativly soft struts.

Dont worry about it.. The stock struts wont hurt lower the car.. Ive had it on Ground Control coilover and I dont see anything wrong.. Go for it!!! Do it what make you comfortable..

I was going to run on the stock struts when i put my TEINS in, but since I'm there, might as well do both. Unless, you dont have to cash to get shocks, then ride on the stockers. Seems to work well for most people..

I just bought the Sprint Springs and I am going to use the Stock Struts for now. I will post an update in a month after I get them installed.

After 18k miles how has it been? Are you satisified with your purchase? How is the ride? It looks like the MaxSpeed's give just the right drop IMHO.
