Transmission slip question

What does it feel like when the transmission slips? Are there any other symptoms that come with a transmission slipping? How hard/expensive is it to fix?

when toy step on it the rpm will shoot up and rev while the car moves little to none at all. price to fix it depends on what transmission you have. manuals are alot cheaper to fix I can tell you that since its just the clutch that needs to be serviced while the auto needs to be overhauled

Helped my trans, hope this helps someone.

My 93 was having trouble going from 1st to 2nd when cold.
After warming up it shifted normal and well.
Pretty much as soon as this started, I pumped out 12 ounces of fluid and
replaced it with Lucas Transmission Fix. Its thick stuff, took a while to go down the funnel! Anyway, it fixed it right up. I suppose this means the seals are getting a little hard and it was having trouble building up enough pressure to shift... just a guess or maybe derived from things I have read.
Anyway, for now its shifting good even when cold.
Cheap fix for now.

Interesting - that's good to know - in case I was in a bind I could try that. TLM is it an auto trans your talking about?

Yeah, I put Lucas in every time I change the fluid. First time I put it in it shifted better. My tranny is a little over a year old from complete rebuild and it still makes a difference.

next time change the fluid and don't add any lucas...i can bet it'll still shift better.

1 - thanks for bumping a 5 yr old thread
2 - adding goo in your tranny will just cause your pump to work harder. you're on borrowed time with the tranny.

Yeah, I guess it would put strain on the pump. I never put it in during the winter because of the thickness. I always change the fluid regularly but once I used it I did notice a difference in the smoothness of the shift. I put it in one weekend then the next weekend I changed it again and I think the heat broke it down because the fluid flowed out like normal tranny fluid. No goo like consistency during draining.

heavier fluid will cause more fluid pressure and that generally gives you a firmer/slightly quicker shift.

when you drain you're only draining out about 1/4 of the fluid that's in the tranny. so keep that in mind.
