Think this is a good price?

A buddy of mine just put a deposit on an 02 SE with 21K miles on it. The car had been hit and repaired: Hood, Bumper, Right side fender, and right side head light The car is CLEAN inside and out. I did look for any frame/internal damage/repair..there was none to speak of. The car drove fine, no pulling or anything like that. The owner is asking 12.8k for it...do you guys think this is a deal? I don't really know what prices are usually like on the maxima that has had damage.

repaired to factory specs??? OEM parts?? clean title??

if its got a salvage title, I'd stay away because the car can never be re-sold without taking a HUGE loss....

any options on the car?

If salvage title that's about right for the value. You lose 30-40% off for Salvage. If he keeps the car for 7+ years the salvage title will mean less of a discount thatn it does now-its a smart move to buy if he wants to keep it a while.

If its salvage, I'd stay away from it. He'll never be able to resell it for any real $$$.....you can't "fix" a salvage title...its branded that way for life...

not saying he'd sell it now, but what if he wants to in a year, maybe two...he'll never get anything for it...IMO salvage cars belong in the junkyard

my experience has bee nlike this,

once a car has been hit, it will never be the same. i would take it to a body shop, and ask them to inspect it and see what they say

becuase just becuase damage isnt visible doesnt mean it is not there

but if everything checks out, i would think it is a good deal. just remember in some states you can not register a slavage title vehicle..just in case oyu might have to move someday

Well...I inspected it pretty closely. got underneath checked it out pretty thoroughly. Drove it about 10miles on varied roads. I am no dumby when it comes to cars, I've been buying, restoring and selling classics for about 10 years now with my dad. I am not worried about the title at all, He wants to keep it as a driver for a long time. I just wanted people's opinion on whether or not it sounded like a good price for the car. As,like I said before my experiance isn't with new cars as far as having the "salvage" title.
