Brake Lamp Out Warning Light

I just bought my 2003 GLE w/8500 miles. I guess the previous owner had a spoiler installed becuase the window mounted stop light was still installed with the bulb inserted. The install looks like it was done at the dealer. When I pressed the brake both tail lamps, the spoiler strip light and the window mounted light all came on. I didn't like the window mounted light coming on so I removed the bulb. Now the dash warning lamp comes on every time I press the brake. I've noticed some GLE's have a cover over the opening where the stop light was. Is there also something else I need to make the dash light stop coming on? I don't want to reinstall the window light bulb.

I am thinking this was done at home. I believe he should have run the wire for the spoiler brake light from the third brake light in the rear window.
