How to get codes??????
How to get codes??????
Hello! I am in need of some help!! My 95 Maxima's check engine light has come on....AGAIN......and I can't afford to take it in. -Last time it was the knock sensor-stupid expensive part!!!! I called around and I guess because I am a girl - or they just want more $$$$, the service guys just say to bring it in. Any idea where I can go to get the little key or whatever it is called to get the codes so that I can fix it? Also, does the Haynes manual have the codes in it? I really appreciate any help I can get.

woah! :-) cool... A female... who posts here and owns a maxima...
welcome!!!
What i would do, is check the 4th gen faq... it's just above this thread
it's a sticky up there on this page...
in there it'll tell you how to do it.
simply put... it's very easy...
you just have to remove a plate right beside your gas pedal...
and turn a screw clockwise and turn it back...
check the link above... that was just posted... hehe

Either pull the codes yourself with the link in the post above, or take it to an AutoZone or Advance Auto Parts and they should do it for you for free..... They will use a scan tool to pull the codes from the ECU... While you are there, you might want to pick up a Haynes Manual for your car..... Its well worth the 15 bucks to buy it...

FYI, the check engine light is nothing to panic about. There are about 200 different anomalies that will trigger it and most of them are no big deal.
If you notice something wrong with your car and then it comes on, be concerned. If everything seems normal, and it comes on anyway, just relax and check it out when you have time.
