Front Strutbar ruined my EVAP

Hi all,
I have been getting 0304(KnockSensor) and 0111(EVAP) ECU Code error for last 4 months, and I thought 0111 was just coming up along with knock sensor because I had knocksensor error since last summer. Anyway, while I was changing PCV valve, I had to undo one side of Strut bar, and noticed round thing with small hose has been cracked. I noticed, one side of small hose became so flat and smooth which telling me that it has been getting some pressure from my strut bar. Here are links for pictures.

http://users.bergen.org/jimkim/maxima/01220001.jpg
http://users.bergen.org/jimkim/maxima/01220002.jpg

I need to order this round parts and hose, and if someone can give me part number, I will be very appreciated it. or at least name of it..
Also, does anybody have similar problem due to front strut bar?
What is alternate solution? Would putting a lot of washer between bar and body help? Help!!!
Thanks in advance..

Well, the FSTB did the same thing to the valve.
Now many of us will save time and money when dealing with the 0111 code.
I guess we could bend the bracket that the valve sits in so it doesn't rub against the FSTB.

I remove my strut bar since 2 weeks because of that. I don't have time right now to modify the bracket but i will do it and re-install the strut bar after that.

So what's the name of part? or part#?
I requested inquiry to nissanparts.cc in WA, but she hasn't got back with me yet.. Usually, she replied within 2 business days, but I think she's having trouble to locate the parts with picture..

I had that problem, but luckily it only broke the hose. The round thing is the EVAP Purge Flow Monitor. It uses vacumm to spray fuel into the intake plenum. I replaced the hose, wrapped it with electrical tape, and bent the bracket to move the monitor.

Yeah my hose broke too and I ended up just modifying it with a hose adapter that my mechanic had. Stuck the plastic piece in the hole connected to the Evap and the other end into the hose. No need to replace anything.

Oh and i also sold the fstb and got a stillen = more clearance in my case.

I had posted this problem about a month ago becuase someone had asked what that code was. Luckily my strut bar only craked the hose and was about a $2.00 fix.

you sure about that? cuz i def have one. O and what are the symptoms if your evap is messed up. All i got right is a poo low end, and my knock sensor is bad, so im assuming thats the reason.

The Courtesy Nissan FSTB happens to have a slight raise to it, but even my Stillen FSTB seems to be fine:

Check the build date on the driver's door jamb. Mine's a fed spec car built in August of 1994.

I don't have it on my '99 SE either. I know in '99 they changed from a mechanical to an electrical EVAP.

I had a problem with my strut bar hitting some stuff under the hood too... I had to raise it just a little bit... and I used a washer under just one of the nuts (but I put it under the strut bar and between the body... just like you're asking).

So for your question, yea... if you need to raise it just a little bit, a washer should work fine. It seems to be causing no problems for me.

So does this mean I have no risk of this if I buy a FSTB (99)?

I noticed the same problem when I first installed my FSTB. What you're going to have to do is bend the bracket that holds the valve. Bend it down and back towards the firewall. This yielded about 1/8" of clearance between the hose and FSTB. So far, I have seen no damage to the hose or valve. You might also want to put some cable loom around the other hoses on top of the engine, which should protect them from rubbing against the FSTB.

EVAP valve not in engine bay!!!!!

Guys I spoke to a head tech from Nissan the other day and I was told that it would be pretty hard for a front strut bar to damage the EVAP considering the EVAP is located in the rear drivers side quarter panel right behind the rear tire. If you feel under the fender you will find a box, and inside that box is where the EVAP system is found. One of the biggest reasons for EVAP system to fail is, (now don't get freaked by this), due to SPIDERS!!! It seems that spiders love the smell of fuel, and they smell the fumes from the EVAP box and somehow get inside and make their nest inside the damn thing and that cause it to fail.
I didn't believe it until the guy put my car on a lift and opened my EVAP box. Mine was bad to begin with. When he opened it up the thing was covered in spider webs and crap.

You are correct. The EVAP canister (the spider box) and solenoid are located behind the driver's side wheel. The EVAP Control Valve is what we are talking about in this thread.

I know this post is ancient but I wanted to bump it since it just solved the check engine light that popped up on me this afternoon. Thanks to everyone who replied with info/pictures. It didn't look broken until I touched the hose and then it separated from the valve. Anyway, maybe this post will help some noobs that have the 0111 code and can't search like I did.
